Someone should absolutely do a comic remake of The Dogs of War, in which the team is entirely made up of right-wing influencers
MAGA Men should honestly seriously consider a life in Africa, You have a continent that’s extremely low tax, quite libertarian and relaxed on most regulations, pretty easy to go into the outdoors and hunt whatever with guns, Filled with tons of women who would enjoy literally being trad wives and where your SMV would be a 9.9/10 the second you exit the airport, You would be able to live in the poshest neighborhoods and access decision makers and figures you could never do so at home. Africa is the ultimate MAGA continent, it can give a true MAGA man everything he truly WANTS in life. But 99.99999999 % of them would rather bitch and moan about how America is lost or whatever.

"Don't you worry your pretty little head about it" is perhaps not an ideal position for a democratically elected government to take
The Minister of Colleges and Universities says the audit of OSAP underway by KPMG won't be made public. I asked him why the audit being done with taxpayer money about how other taxpayer money was spent shouldn't be shared. ctvnews.ca/toronto/politics/…

These seem like cool, healthy guys, who are in no way working out racially-coded psychosexual resentments and anxieties in public
Wajahat Ali: "Vivek & Kash Patels were those nerdy, dorky guys... They said, 'One of these days, I'm gonna make a lot of money. And I'm gonna have sex with a white woman'... He thought the whites would take him. But the whites will never, ever accept the Vivek Ramaswamy."

This is smart from @Douthat60 though there is a cynical side of me that wonders whether a sane and decent version of immigration restrictionism would have made any policy gains anyway, or whether countervailing excesses are the name of the game now.
“On immigration, the new right won a big policy victory and simply didn’t know when to stop…Possessed of this all-or-nothing conviction, the new right was unable to maintain the simple normalcy that American politics requires. Instead, heavy-handed deportation tactics yielded backlash in the real world while the online right impurity-spiraled into exotic varieties of racism—a combination perfectly designed to unravel the multiethnic coalition that backed Trump in 2020.”

Definitely not, provided that you are either a person of independent means or reasonably capable of shifting to another track with minimal concerns about opportunity cost
Is it so unreasonable to think there might be good reasons to pursue a PhD aside from getting an academic job?

Canada is particularly well-posititioned for this, not just due to favorable geography, but because it is less prone than the US to some of the culture-war dynamics that data centres got caught up in.
US voters just rejected data centres everywhere they got the chance.
That investment has to land somewhere.
Clean hydro. Open land. Cold winters.
 That's Canada 🇨🇦
This is a massive opportunity for us. Generational.

Yes, this is part of why I suspect the idea that we are going to shift to a more neutral or disinterested posture in the Middle East is mostly a chimera
The DSA has a glorious opportunity to withdraw the USA from the Middle East. They should learn the lesson that Trump has learned today. They won't. They are talking about Israel the way necons talked about Iraq in 2003: compactmag.com/article/the-i…

That was actually a great essay, but I'm not sure the guy who wrote it exists anymore
Right-wing internet weirdos who think it's healthy to do "akshually, Darth Vader was the good guy" should consider the trajectory of Jonathan Last since he wrote a column-length case for the Empire.

A few quick thoughts. 1. The most important issues were Iran and corruption. The corruption one is less discussed but it is ultimately more important. Corruption was guaranteed to torpedo both the populist coalition Trump built and the nationalist program he ran on.

Despite having multiple degrees in political science, I have never been able to abide the process of watching returns or reading electoral analyses, and have always harbored a vague contempt for those who are passionately devoted to such things (some, I assume, are good people).

This is what Sherman McCoy came home to every night, and he still went off to his mistress with the improbable southern accent who got him blamed for committing a racially incendiary hit-and-run.

This is not a basis for making public policy—and this goes for other issues as well
While they calculate the political risk another young man has committed suicide by stepping in front of a train as his work permit was expiring. Such cruelty towards so many young people who have done nothing but want to be Canadian. @MarkJCarney @fordnation

The matter is that there a number of available options that Ottawa could pursue to improve the country's business climate, none of which involve replicating one of the worst policy blunders in its history
Prime Minister Mark Carney is facing growing pressure from business groups to allow more immigration to address Canada’s labor needs, but the prospect of welcoming more migrants carries political risk for him bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Of course, the government turned a blind eye. These weren't criminal masterminds. The scams involved were remarkably brazen, which is why so many people called attention to them for years, to little avail.
At Queen's Park: The Ford government is facing questions about donations made by some private career college owners to the Progressive Conservatives and whether the gov't "turned a blind eye." Minister Nolan Quinn says the government didn't turn a blind eye because the ministry has done 3,200 OSAP inspections into individual OSAP accounts. #onpoli

Coates is getting more return fire for his broadsides on the Middle East, but as I wrote here, they're really not more indiscriminate than those he aimed at America davidpolansky.substack.com/p…
"Haley Stevens’s defection from the Democratic vote isn’t a story about party intrigue. It is a story about Stevens waking up and choosing violence. In supporting Mike Rogers, she has allied herself with an odious culture war in the US, tied to the very real war in Gaza,” writes Ta-Nehisi Coates. vanityfair.visitlink.me/4IcJ…
