Nicolas (github.com/NDalbec) presented the results of his mémoire de maîtrise, on Accurate unsupervised photon counting from transition edge sensor signals!
The results he obtained are reported on this preprint arxiv.org/abs/2411.05737 .
The integrated quantum photonics workshop starts with Gerd Leuchs president of @OpticaWorldwide telling us about quantum entanglement vs classical non separability
For the engineering physics seminar @polymtl today, @CRios_O from @UofMaryland is telling us about how phase-change materials are great for photonics, especially for slow applications.
Very timely reading from Tom Chivers' Everything is predictable: "research is more complex now, and we have the technology to present it all and the moving parts". So, do come to the @NeuroLibre workshop this friday organized by @Stikov this Friday in Montréal!
The theory developed by them in collaboration with M. Houde (from our group at @polymtl) nicely matches their experiments. See the figure below for a comparison:
@GThekkadath and our friends at NRC came up with a very clever way of measuring this delay using intensity interferometry and (surprisingly!) click detectors (notice that this effect happens in the high-gain).
These corrections modify the JSA of squeezed light as the gain is increased, in particular they endow the JSA with a nontrivial phase structure which changes the group delay of signal and idler photons:
well, we woke up to this. I guess we need some consultants to get proper bollards @WorldBollard . More seriously, even here car culture is awful and road and street engineering is shit. As @NotJustBikesToo would say, Montreal is three nice neighbourhoods on a trench coat.
And finally just a point of clarification: you can do discrete variables in strawberry fields contrary to what is claimed here. A nice example of DC is this one strawberryfields.ai/photonic… .
Congrats on the publication of this work @MarioKrenn6240 ! I meant to ask you: What is the complexity of your method? For computing Takagi of an n x n matrix is the same as SVD (so ~ n^3) and for calculating a hafnian of n x n is (n^3 x 2^n).
Apparently now it needs to be clarified that not all Boson Sampling is Gaussian Boson Sampling. Very nice talk by Josh Nunn about @orcacomputing plans.
Was reading about the Heisenberg group when I saw that a certain argument relied on 'abstract nonsense' which is apparently a real thing en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abst…
On Friday Martin Houde will be presenting our work on Waveguided Sources of Consistent, Single-Temporal-Mode Squeezed Light: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly at @CLEOConf . If you happen to be in San Jose, go and check it out!

today for the @RQMP6 seminar we had Adina @LuicanMayer who told us about the amazing work her lab does using scanning tunnelling microscopy and spectroscopy experiments to study and create novel moiré structures.
"In short, SUVs are oversized, ridiculous, unnecessary death machines that are literally killing people; even their own drivers" piped.video/watch?v=jN7mSXMr…
For the @RQMP6 seminar today we had @GThekkadath who told us about the fantastic work he has been doing on using holography to reconstruct modes in classical and nonclassical light.
