So much to dissect here @SADC_News … 1. The coup leader who overthrew the SADC chair is welcome to attend 2. Congratulations extended to Her Excellency The Butcher of Tanzania 3. Extend thanks to another champion of election manipulation and repression for offering to host future meetings Extraordinary indeed!

I wrote up some thoughts inspired by the recent events in Madagascar. Here, Salah Ben Hammou and I point to the disconnect between leaders being unpopular at home while being warmly embraced by the international community. theconversation.com/madagasc…

We are saddened to announce the passing of Dr. John Stempel, who taught at the Patterson School from 1988 until 2013 and served as Director from 1993 until 2003.  Dr. Stempel's influence on the Patterson School, its students, and the wider University community is immeasurable.

I wrote a little something on post-coup politics. In short, more troubling than the military coups themselves is what happens next. In contrast to previous decades, soldiers no longer feel the need to even go through the motions of exiting politics. theconversation.com/gabons-c…

Gonna need a proof of life on this one…
Rest assured, Paul Biya is still kicking. (Or so his government says.)

Almost exactly a year ago, #Niger was the fourth country in the #Sahel to experience a #coup since 2020. Since then the political & #security landscape in the region has profoundly changed. Here's a recap of the major developments🧵:

Reminds me of the time I was getting “training” for online instruction (which was said to be equal in effectiveness to traditional) and the training was required to be done in person (to maximize effectiveness of the training).
The evidence that in-person instruction is more effective than online appears extremely consistent? Feels pretty unusual to see such consensus in social science 1. aeaweb.org/articles?id=10.12… 2. aeaweb.org/articles?id=10.12… 3. journals.uchicago.edu/doi/fu… 4. aeaweb.org/articles?id=10.12…
