The Ministry of Health hosted development and health sector partners, including the Development Partners for Health in Kenya (DPHK), Health NGOs Network (HENNET), Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF) and Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), for a consultative meeting on Kenya’s response to Ebola Virus Disease. The meeting reviewed the evolving situation, assessed national response priorities and funding gaps, and explored ways to mobilise and align partner support to strengthen surveillance, contact tracing, laboratory testing, case management, infection prevention and control, and community engagement. The Ministry reaffirms the importance of coordinated action, timely resource mobilisation and strong partnerships to contain transmission, protect health workers and communities, and strengthen national preparedness. Through a coordinated, whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, we remain committed to protecting the health and safety of all Kenyans.

The Church plays an important role in public health by raising awareness, promoting healthy practices and helping communities access reliable information. Today, I joined the congregation at Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu for Sunday service led by Bishop Edward Mwai, where we shared updates on the Ebola situation in the country and urged Kenyans to remain vigilant, observe preventive measures and rely on verified information from the Ministry of Health. As we strengthen surveillance and contact tracing, collaboration with faith leaders remains important in countering misinformation, promoting responsible behaviour and protecting our communities.

Ebola is a severe and often fatal illness caused by the Ebola virus. Early detection and a coordinated response help protect communities. I chaired an EVD response meeting to review ongoing measures and strengthen coordination. Kenya has confirmed three linked cases; the latest patient was identified while in quarantine. There is no evidence of wider community transmission. Containment measures include isolating and caring for confirmed cases, tracing and monitoring contacts, testing suspected cases, strengthening infection prevention and control, and screening travellers at points of entry. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant, seek care promptly if unwell, and call 719 for guidance. #EbolaAlertKE

Joined H.E. Deputy President, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, during his development tour of Gichugu Constituency in Kirinyaga County, where he flagged off electrification materials for Gathoge, Piai and Kiumbui, targeting 114 households. Since 2022, 32,000 households in Kirinyaga County have been connected to electricity, with an additional 10,800 households set to be connected. We also inspected the ongoing construction of the 53-kilometre road connecting Piai, Mbiri, Ngiriambu, Kiamutugu, Muchagara, Karumandi, Gatugura, Thumaita, Kamugunda, Kamweti, Kavote and Kimunye. The road is part of 571 kilometres earmarked for tarmacking across Kirinyaga County, with works on 472 kilometres already ongoing. These investments in electricity connectivity and road infrastructure are opening up communities, supporting local businesses and improving access to essential services.

JKIA remains a critical gateway into the country and a key point in strengthening our preparedness and response to Ebola Virus Disease. Today, we engaged Ministry of Health staff and Kenya Airports Authority staff at JKIA on efforts to close surveillance gaps and strengthen screening and monitoring systems. All designated gates for travellers from high-risk countries are fully equipped and operational to support early detection and protect public health. We urge Kenyans to remain calm, avoid misinformation and continue following Ministry of Health guidelines as we strengthen our collective efforts to safeguard public health.

Partnerships with other countries are important in sharing knowledge, strengthening our health systems and improving how we prepare for public health challenges. Kenya and Thailand have a history of cooperation in health, including training and capacity building in areas such as Universal Health Coverage and community healthcare. Today, I held talks with the Ambassador of Thailand to Kenya, H.E. Ms. Jirusaya Birananda, who paid me a courtesy call. We discussed how to build on this partnership and explore new areas of cooperation, including support for Kenya’s response to Ebola Virus Disease. We look forward to working more closely with Thailand to strengthen our public health response and improve health outcomes for Kenyans.
