Atwood said: “It’s estimated that North America has lost over three billion birds in the past 50 years. Graeme [Gibson] and I already knew about the falling numbers back in the 1980s. What was killing them? What sort of obstacle course did they have to run on their journey? And what could we humans do to help? That is why I wrote For the Birds, so long ago. Its message has only become more urgent over time.”
