Nigerian scientist Abdullahi Ibrahim Uba, who is pursuing his academic and research career in Turkey, has announced his inclusion in the 2026 Worldβs Top 2% Scientists list compiled by Stanford University and Elsevier.
Uba was listed in the field of Chemistry, specifically under Medicinal and Biomolecular Chemistry, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of his research activities.
Reacting to the recognition, he said he was somewhat surprised by the classification, explaining that his research extends across several interconnected scientific fields, including chemistry, biology, bioinformatics, computational biology and drug discovery.
He noted that his work often lies at the intersection of these disciplines, where researchers combine different approaches to investigate complex scientific questions and advance knowledge.
Uba also suggested that future editions of the ranking might classify his research under Biology, particularly Bioinformatics or Computational Biology, depending on how his multidisciplinary work is categorised.
Reflecting on the experience, he emphasised that scientific discovery often occurs where different disciplines meet, allowing researchers to explore problems beyond the boundaries of traditional academic fields.
His recognition highlights the contributions of Nigerian researchers working internationally and pursuing research that connects multiple areas of science.
