Rented a car for the first time in California this past weekend and drove the winding state route 17 to see the beautiful Redwoods in Henry Cowell Park, and the Monarch Butterfly Grove 🪧🪵🦋
What an incredible treat 🥰

Slashing app download size by ~30% across a 10-million line codebase is easier than ever with R8 and Profile guided optimization. 🛠️
See how @GrabSG rolled out R8 Full Mode and Baseline Profiles to dramatically shrink their app and cut ANRs by 32% → goo.gle/4ysSUHC

We've been improving the #JetpackCompose documentation with loads of small fixes, but also new docs in general! 🔥
For ex: The Dragging composables documentation was updated to showcase Modifier.anchorredDraggable(), showcasing how to make custom navigation drawers with overscroll effects.

We've just released a new official Android skill that can be used to statically analyse your #JetpackCompose code for performance improvements. ⚡️
Install it, and ask your agent to run the skill on your code. 🧑💻
We've seen some good results running it internally - give it a try and let us know any feedback!

As always, with any kind of performance work - you should benchmark your code to see if performance does improve, as many of these tips can be nuaced based on context of where it's used. More to come in skills land to help support this!
The most interesting part for me has been diving more into the depths of stability in Compose...
Did you know?
That you shouldn't just label everything as Stable / Immutable as this means the compiler will actually do a full object comparison, so for huge lazy lists it could actually mean _worse_ performance than leaving it unannotated and relying on reference equality instead. 🤯🧠
Happy Monday @AndroidDev! Need @materialdesign Expressive inspiration? Just ask Opus. Here are 10 beautiful, one-shot samples that I was able to generate over the last week with a directed design prompt (see Specifications section in link 👇). Excited to refine these further to distill into UX skills.

If you looking to advance your AI usage with Android: My #1 tip is to install the Android CLI.
It's a bunch of easy to use tools from the command line, that you agents can interact with.
The latest feature added to the CLI is Device Streaming - allowing your agents to connect to remote Android devices.

Updates for Android skills and Android CLI are here! 📱
We’re covering updates such as Android Device Streaming in Android CLI, a new skill to help you catch memory leaks, and a deep dive into the Wear Compose Material 3 skill → goo.gle/4AM87G4

You and your agent can now access Android Device Streaming directly through Android CLI → goo.gle/4xFEWTj
It gives you remote access to real physical devices for testing. Deploy builds, collect logs, and capture screenshots all through the terminal. ⚡️
