WRU have made £10m and we understand it comes from selling shares in URC. they have whinged about shortcomings in Regions - who are all
reviving strongly. if they do not split the 10m equally amongst the pro teams they stand accused of deliberately trying to kill then off.
Great line Rhys. my contacts suggest they will not pass it on to the Regions, which would be a disgrace. Amount allegedly for the sale of shares in URC
Exclusive:
ITV News understands the Welsh Rugby Union received nearly £10m last month as a result of a CVC transaction with the the United Rugby Championship.
The four Welsh clubs were unaware of the deal and only learned of it after its completion.
🏉Union consultants’ report on cutting clubs comes from non specialist firm, using data up to 8 years old.
Much of the info highlighted could have been searched for by anyone with the internet?
Why is money spent on reports like this?

Just listened to the whole debate in the Senedd (Welsh Parliament). Very powerful. There was heavy cross-party support for retaining four regions, savage criticism of the WRU and accusations that many of the financial problems in the sport are the fault of the WRU itself, not the regions. Surely, no WRU board member or the CEO can stay in power having listened to the debate
My article on the abysmal, frightened WRU. They rejected applications last week from two world-class administrators, who disagreed with the crazy plan to chop a team. A toothless, silent Board with no rugby background staggers on. thetimes.com/sport/rugby-uni…
Welsh rugby union is currently out of its depth and that is a fact. We’ve gone backwards not only as a team but a governing body. We need change immediately @WelshGovernment
the WRU have announced that there is no prospect of raising funding for four pro teams by 2028. Dead right, with you lot in charge there is no chance at all. Get out of the way and allow some proper sporting administrators to rescue the game you have trashed
Really hope this gets the backing it deserves. Lots of time and effort has gone into this, and fair play to Hayley for calling them out. Enough is enough, it’s clear to see the current regime is nowhere near good enough. If we continue as we are it will be the end of Welsh Rugby
It's over 13 years since Peter Thomas characterised the WRU's attitude to the pro clubs as "power, control, divide, conquer, wipeout".
The faces may have changed, but it sometimes seems that little else has.
The Chair post is an independent one. Its not the Chairs job to decide on or implement strategy.
Setting a criteria for selecting a new chair, that they support the current strategy, is totally wrong and the clubs should be challenging the board on this.
The million dollar questions are why, and why did it take them a whole, costly bidding process to work this one out.
Depending on what happened with the bids etc, if Y11 believes that the process was never serious and that they have been misled, they could have a case for costs
