Super excited to share my 1st first-author publication out today in @ScienceMagazine, in which we resurrect billion-year-old enzymes to study the evolution of Rubisco. Let me tell you how a 100 amino acid protein facilitated the rise of oxygenic life. science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…

We are bringing agents to the wet-lab bench at Google Research to navigate complex biological landscapes. Learn how we are grounding agents in physical lab robotics to run fast closed-loop molecular design cycles, ultimately discovering single-digit nanomolar protein binders for cancer targets →goo.gle/4B5mMMB

Most important, we want to get this model into as many scientists’ hands as we can. Today, we’re announcing that 10,000 scientists will get the highest usage tier access to Gemini 4 Argon in Google @antigravity free of charge for 6 months. Apply here: forms.gle/WvmBbPvRbpKG1BPn9

Over the past few weeks, we have been putting Gemini 4 Argon to the test on protein engineering workflows at Google DeepMind, and we have some interesting initial (zero shot!) results to share. 🧵👇

Very cool stuff! Mixing atomic diffusion and discrete sequence diffusion to make enzymes. It's still the early days in enzyme design, so much more to do 👀

Enzymes are incredibly complex machines and designing them is one of the grand challenges of our time. Amazing experience to try and make some progress on these problems with this group of people!

Today, our team is sharing a preprint on our new system for generative de-novo enzyme design, AlphaProtein Novo. At @GoogleDeepMind, we have long focused on the building blocks of life (proteins). We developed AlphaFold to predict structure, trained language models to understand function, and built AlphaProteo to design de-novo binders. But proteins play many important roles in nature, such as enzymes that catalyze chemical reactions. Designing entirely new enzymes from scratch to catalyze custom reactions has long been a holy grail for scientists. Our team has shown how AlphaProtein Novo can produce new-to-nature enzymes with state-of-the-art activity on 2 benchmark reactions. We’ve also designed custom enzymes to synthesize the pharmaceutical motif piperidine, and others to degrade the environmental plasticizer toxin DEHP. While there is much more work to do in this direction, we’re excited to have demonstrated the ability to design functional proteins that go beyond what is known in nature. Huge congratulations to @jueseph, @ZvxyWu, Josh Abramson, the @GoogleDeepMind protein design team, and our collaborators in the @francesarnold & Liu Group! 🎉 🔗 Preprints and code: biorxiv.org/content/10.64898… biorxiv.org/content/10.64898… github.com/google-deepmind/a…

In collaboration with the @francesarnold and @pengliu_group research groups, we @GoogleDeepMind are proud to release AlphaProtein Novo, a pipeline for small-molecule enzyme design. We developed AlphaProtein Novo on a few standard model reactions, and validated designs in our own wet lab. We then wanted to challenge this system against nascent chemistries, so we asked leading scientists in biocatalysis whether we could partner on the reactions they cared about.

Introducing AlphaProtein Novo, a pipeline for de novo enzyme design! In collaboration with @francesarnold's group, we developed AP Novo and used it to get SoTA "novel-scaffold" activity on 2 benchmark reactions and create enzymes to synthesize the pharmaceutical motif piperidine and degrade the environmental toxin DEHP. Work led by @ZvxyWu @ZiqiLi0513 with teammates @alexechu_ @kelly_ruijie @schulluc @jacobjinkelly @rosaliags @davidla @solserpens @j_reisenbauer, @pengliu_group, Josh, Thomas, Amy, Tristan, Harshnira, and others. It was a joy and privilege to work with you all! Preprints and code: biorxiv.org/content/10.64898… biorxiv.org/content/10.64898… github.com/google-deepmind/a…

Co-sign. Argon is a game changer for our research on the Protein Design team and I love using it on a day-to-day basis.

Introducing Gemini 4 Argon – our new frontier model. It’s built for complex workflows across coding, enterprise knowledge work, and cybersecurity defense – rolling out today to a set of trusted testers through our Fairwind Program.

Introducing Gemini 3.8, our best reasoning & coding model yet. By leveraging long-running agentic loops, we’re building on the momentum of 3.7 Flash from just three weeks ago to release two new 3.8 variants: Meet Gemini 3.8 Flash and Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber 🧵

Today marks a pivotal moment for Isomorphic Labs. We have secured $2.1 Billion in our second external funding round, led by Thrive Capital. They are joined at the table by Alphabet, GV and new investors MGX, Temasek, CapitalG and the UK Sovereign AI Fund. This milestone accelerates our ability to build the pioneering novel AI models that power our AI drug design engine (IsoDDE) and deploy them at scale: delivering scientific breakthroughs with a precision previously thought impossible, accelerating and expanding our pipeline of therapeutic programs toward the clinic. All with the ultimate goal of delivering life-changing new medicines to patients. Moving forward, we will scale our drug candidate pipelines across multiple therapeutic areas, expand our global footprint, and push the boundaries of frontier AI research to power our drug design engine. Deeply grateful to everyone sharing our vision to solve all disease with AI. Let’s build the future of medicine. Read the full announcement here: bit.ly/4v2OI03
