An exceptional opportunity to partner with leading thinkers in AI and scientific discovery and fix what's broken about scientific software! Looking forward to discussing (and judging) the myriad creative projects that this diverse group will build.
Tomorrow! 🗓️ Our tools for science hack with @inherent_labs is hugely oversubscribed, with half of hackers coming from outside the golden triangle, thanks to @ukdynamism 🇬🇧 Some inspiration - the tools researchers flagged as bottlenecks👇 Can we build some solutions? 🧪

Much of scientific research runs on old software with clunky interfaces or unexplained bugs. To realise the benefits of AI for science, we first need to fix the foundations. Join us to pay off science’s tech debt. Tokens, travel and accommodation provided, prizes to follow...!

I could have written an encyclopaedia of complaints by scientists about the software they had to work with If you think you can do better (it might not be hard!) please do join our hackathon!

We're hosting an important event. Science has built vital tooling over the years, but struggles to keep up with modern needs. There is great opportunity now to re-build key parts of the scientific tech stack using AI, and make a real difference in day-to-day scientific work. Sign up below to participate!

1/ Today we’re launching an open letter calling on the government to end unfair restrictions that stop Britain’s best switching jobs or starting companies. UK AI companies that have raised $5bn agree: our best should be free to start and scale. 🧵 @downingstreet @biztradegovuk

This is a HUGE problem in biological research – and it leads to massive waste of money & time. Loads of scientists will have tried these antibodies & realised they don't work, but we don't share any of that technical/experimental info with each other. We need to fix this!
The scientific community is grappling with concerns about the reliability of these workhorse antibodies go.nature.com/4hOHZDt

Important letter - very glad @RAEngNews is among the signatories. A research system built for discovery should have funding rules that leave room for its institutional forms to evolve too.
Britain is gaining momentum in creating new kinds of research organisation. But there are barriers to them receiving support from our main public funder. Today, 17 organisations call on UKRI to change that – to fund the best science, wherever it's done. science.works/writing/open-l…

I don’t have strong views on the Faraday Discovery Fellowships specifically, but it’s incredibly valuable to have an organisation like Science Works doing detailed, insightful commentary on specific science policy questions.
