At seven months pregnant she walked herself to the hospital in rural Rwanda. Hours later Theonile gave birth and experienced severe post-partum hemorrhaging. Here’s her story.

It is unbelievable to gauge the impact and transformation Zipline brought in the last decade as they started and ramped up drone deliveries in Rwanda. Drone delivery is about to be cheaper than cars. But the drone is only 15% of the work to get there. A decade after starting in Rwanda flying blood to one hospital, @zipline has flown 140M+ autonomous miles with zero safety incidents, expanded to the US and to food delivery and household items, and delivery costs have fallen from $300 to $12 - now cheaper than a car. Getting there meant building almost everything from scratch: flight computers, motors, GPS modules, even the air traffic software regulators use to track them. And it meant a discipline most engineers find nearly impossible. Late into the night of March 19, Nembe General Hospital in southern Nigeria faced a crisis. A two year old child was in critical condition with severe anemia, and the hospital urgently needed one unit of B+ red blood cells.
