Ok fine. The ONE GUY who needed algebra.
Every guidance system on his capsule failed in orbit. He drew lines on his window, aimed it using the stars, and timed reentry with his wristwatch. He landed just 4 miles from the carrier

She exposed Watergate, then powertul men tried to make America think she was crazy. In 1972, Martha Mitchell discovered her daughter's bodyguard was a Watergate burglar. Her husband ran Nixon's campaign. When she called a reporter, someone ripped the phone from the wall. She was restrained, forcibly sedated, and smeared as unstable by Nixon's aides. Two years later, Nixon resigned. Martha's claims were vindicated. Today, the Martha Mitchell Effect describes how people telling the truth can be dismissed as delusional.

Funny how it stopped being funny
In January 1962,three schoolgirls at mission school in Tanganyika began laughing uncontrollably and could not stop. The laughter spread to 95 of 159 students, then nearby villages and 14 schools. Attacks Iasted hours to over two weeks;the outbreak continued for 18 months

We often mix up eloquence and intelligence. Someone can sound super confident, throw around fancy words, and make a point so well that we totally forget to check if it's even true. Another person might stumble over their words yet totally get the whole picture on a deep level. Being good at talking is just a skill, not a sign you are a genius. Figuring out the difference between a smooth pitch and a solid fact is a really handy kind of critical thinking that people just don't talk about enough.
Hit me with the harshest reality truth

Im so sorry for the loss of the scientists in that car crash next week🕊️
Scientists in Japan have figured out how to make cancer cells end themselves. They forced cancer cells to poison themselves by creating a toxin that reacts with carbon monoxide, causing the toxin to only affect cancer cells. Normal cells were unharmed in lab tests.

So he always had the vision
After 9/11, Paul Bettany spent two days desperately trying to reach Jennifer Connelly in New York. That's when he realized he was in love with her. When he finally got through, he told her he was coming over and they should get married. They had never even dated.

I think one of the hardest parts about growing up is watching friendships change without anyone actually doing anything wrong. There's no fight, no betrayal, no proper goodbye. You just slowly stop talking every day, plans become harder to make, and suddenly you realise you don't know what's happening in their life anymore. And it's strange because you're genuinely happy for them, but somewhere inside you still miss the days when a random call could turn into hours of talking, when meeting each other didn't need planning, and when you could just show up and know you belonged. Maybe I don't miss the friendship as much as I miss how effortlessly happy we all used to be together.

Then the banks made laws so it has to be sold at "market price" so families and communities can't do this anymore.
A penny auction at a foreclosed farm in the 1930s. During the Great Depression, neighbors would show up, hang nooses to warn off outside bidders, buy the farm back for a few cents, and return it to the family who lost it.

There's a quiet kind of happiness in having small things to look forward to. Dinner you’ve been craving tonight. Coffee in the morning. Catching up with a friend this weekend. A trip coming up next month. A new book waiting on your nightstand. You don’t need a big milestone to feel excited about life. Sometimes, it’s just a handful of little moments ahead of you that can turn an ordinary week into something that feels special.

sagarmatha will always be its name!
Kind of tragic that the earth’s highest mountain peak is named after someone who never saw it, never climbed it, and couldn’t even pronounce its local name.

Nothing calms down your nervous system more than having consistent flow of money, and not because of shallow reasons such as, you can go to your favorite restaurant every weekend. You can shop wherever you want, go to your favorite pubs. Not at all, but because if you have enough money saved in your bank account, you do not have to worry about what comes next. Even if you lose your job, even if your parents need money, there's a health care crisis, whatever it is, you are good because you have saved it in your bank account. And so therapy is fine, reading books is fine, trying to calm down your nervous system is fine. But unless you actually go to the root of why your nervous system is actually acting up all the time, you're not going to be better because that's when you will feel like you can move confidently in the world. And because you have actually earned that money yourself. And because that is your question in any situation that comes your way. People who do not have consistent cash flow struggle with everything in their life, in every spare versus those who have made it. And now they're happy in every other sphere of their life. I've seen it firsthand and that is why I'll continue to say it louder.
an unpopular opinion that would put you in this situation.

You could go on through your twenties and your thirties following a career path that makes you money, that gets you a family, and gives you stability. But it isn't quite you. And then you get into your forties, and that sense of discomfort kinda grows. And maybe you go and have an affair, or maybe you start taking some kind of drug or something like that, or you gain a lot of weight. Then, you're in your fifties and you're kind of locked into this. And, it‘s too late to change and you realize that you're headed in the wrong direction in life. You think that money and stability are the only things that matter, but they're not. You have to have a sense of adventure; you have to have a sense of exploring. You have to have some courage in this world to pursue something that suits you and isn't necessarily going to make you as big an income as this other career path. You have to realize that you're going to pay a price for violating this law of who you actually are. You're going to pay a price, and that is you're going to disengage from your work. You're going to start having habits and addictions and things. Your body tells you the truth. Through physical sensation, your body is going to rebel at some point. You're going to get illnesses, you're going to become diabetic, and you're going to start gaining weight. You've disconnected from the reality of who you actually are and you will pay a price.
an unpopular opinion that would put you in this situation.

Dead poets society
When someone in the Netherlands dies with nobody to attend the funeral, a poet comes anyway. Since 2002, a rotating group of Dutch poets piece together each stranger's life from whatever is left behind, writing a poem that is read aloud beside the coffin.
