RustGIS v0.5.0 is here!
RustGIS is a fast, free and open-source GIS in pure Rust for mapping, analyzing and sharing geospatial data. It runs natively on Windows, macOS and Linux, and in your web browser. Your data stays on your machine unless you send it to an AI model you choose, and every action is a command you can script.
This release adds an expression language for queries and symbols, much richer symbols and labels, and a full set of overlay tools. It brings together 231 pull requests from 24 contributors, 11 of them contributing for the first time. Thank you to everyone who helped!
What's new in v0.5.0
- Expressions: one language with functions for queries, Calculate Field and per-feature symbol size, colour and angle.
- Symbols and labels: hatch, gradient and shapeburst fills, markers along lines, label halos, backgrounds, wrapping and alternative positions.
- Analysis: Intersect, Union, Identity, Near, Merge, Join Field, Pivot Table, Kernel Density and a much stronger Spatial Join.
- Safer editing: save edits back to GeoPackage and PostGIS, autosave with crash recovery, and portable project paths.
- Web services and time: WMS and WMTS on the time slider, with legends and Identify, ArcGIS sign-in and a Data Cubes pane.
- Bigger data: large Shapefile, GeoPackage, FlatGeobuf and GeoParquet layers read a chunk at a time, and PMTiles export.
- More platforms: Windows on ARM64, a native macOS menu bar, Docker images and a Qt map widget for Python.
