BATUK: BRITAIN'S COLONIAL GRIP IN KENYA BATUK: The White Man’s Burden in Kenya is not just a documentary about a British military base where soldiers roll around in the dirt for six months before returning home to the UK. It is a documentary about abuse of power, occupation of indigenous land and the unfinished business of colonialism. For decades, ordinary Kenyans living around BATUK have raised allegations of abuse, sexual violence, ecological destruction and impunity, while one of the world’s most powerful former colonial powers continues to operate freely on Kenyan soil, handing out small amounts of compensation whenever evidence of alleged crimes reaches the media. At the centre of the documentary is the story of Agnes Wanjiru, a 21-year-old Kenyan woman who was tortured, killed and dumped in a septic tank, while British soldiers mocked and ridiculed her death on social media. One soldier posed in front of the septic tank and posted, “If you know, you know.” Others joked about the five-month-old daughter she left behind, posting imagery of a baby beside a gravesite. But the story goes beyond Agnes and her tragic killing and the shocking behaviour of British troops thereafter. The documentary asks deeper questions: How did Britain maintain a military presence in Kenya, the very same year the country supposedly gained independence? Why are foreign troops still training on stolen land while local communities continue to suffer? And above all, why does the Kenyan government allow all of this? Laikipia County, currently in the spotlight because of plans for an Ebola quarantine facility for US citizens, is the very same county where the BATUK military base is headquartered. This documentary helps connect the dots about why Kenya’s political elite remain so willing to cede sovereignty to foreign powers like Britain, and why they may be willing to do the same again with the United States. NETANYAHU BOASTS OF ISRAEL’S EXPANDING INFLUENCE IN SOUTH AMERICA Isr*eli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims that at least eight or nine countries in South America have already joined Isr*el's expanding network of alliances. But what exactly is Isr*el trying to gain across the region? Netanyahu’s reference to the Abraham Accords signed with Arab nations is similar to the Isaac Accords initiative signed with Argentine President Javier Milei in April. It seeks to deepen Isr*el's political, economic, diplomatic and security influence across Latin America. Countries like Argentina, Paraguay, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica and Bolivia have pursued varying degrees of cooperation with Isr*el, from trade agreements and security partnerships to diplomatic normalization and support for Jerusalem as Isr*el’s capital. While there’s no verified list, recent ultra-right election victories in the region seem to be shifting in that direction. The initiative also extends beyond heads of state. Its organizers have documented partnerships with legislators, evangelical organizations, journalists and social media influencers, including sponsored trips and campaigns designed to strengthen Isr*el's image and political relationships throughout the region. Brazil is particularly significant. While recently re-elected President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has opposed Isr*eli military action in G*za, calling it a g*nocide, Isr*el claims that roughly one-third of Brazilian legislators have endorsed the initiative's shared principles. However, Lula’s re-election shows that the majority of people are opposed to an ultra-right, Isr*eli-aligned government.

MUSLIM WORSHIPPERS WALK OUT AFTER IMAM DEFENDS TINUBU! Drama erupted at a mosque in Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria, after Sheikh Ibrahim Jalo Jalingo called on Muslim worshippers to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. The cleric reportedly told worshippers that Tinubu’s government was not oppressive and urged them to back him for another term. But not everyone was having it. One worshipper shouted, “THAT’S A LIE!” in the middle of his speech, sparking a wave of protests. Moments later, worshippers reportedly began walking out of the mosque in protest against the cleric’s defence of Tinubu.

THE STORY OF ASSATA SHAKUR On this day in 1979, Black revolutionary Assata Shakur escaped from a US prison after being convicted in a trial widely condemned by supporters and legal observers as racially biased. A member of the Black Liberation Army and former Black Panther, Assata became a symbol of resistance against systemic racism, state repression and the persecution of Black liberation movements in the United States. Her conviction was deeply controversial. Medical experts testified that gunshot injuries had left her right arm paralysed, making it impossible for her to have fired a weapon during the confrontation. Despite this evidence, she was convicted by an all-white jury and subjected to brutal prison conditions, including detention in a men's prison. On 2 November 1979, her comrades helped her escape. She eventually found political asylum in revolutionary Cuba, where she raised her daughter and continued writing and advocating for Black liberation. The US government later designated her a terrorist and placed a multimillion-dollar bounty on her head. Assata understood that oppression was not simply the work of individuals but of a system designed to maintain power. Her autobiography remains essential reading for generations of activists fighting racism, imperialism and injustice. Assata passed away in Havana on 25 September 2025, aged 78, but her revolutionary legacy lives on. “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win.” In this post, content creator Dave Norton (@drnorton) reflects on her extraordinary life, struggle and legacy.

The UAE's candidate for UN Secretary-General, Lana Nusseibeh, has finished fourth in the UN Security Council’s latest informal straw poll, receiving seven encouraging votes, six discouraging votes, and two abstentions. Failing to reach the nine votes required to secure a formal nomination, her entry into the race has been highly controversial given that the veteran diplomat, who served as the UAE’s ambassador to the UN from 2013 to 2024, has persistently denied the UAE's support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a militia accused of g*nocide in Sudan. During her tenure, the UAE's mission also reportedly worked to keep Sudan off the Security Council agenda and exclude Sudanese representatives from meetings. As a result, there is an ongoing campaign against her candidacy by activists and rights groups, including Human Rights Watch (HRW), who accused her of whitewashing the UAE's abuses, noting that she persistently "dismissed and undermined the findings of the UN’s own reports". HRW further questioned her "willingness to defend the independence and integrity of the UN and its investigative mechanisms". Despite Nusseibeh's fourth-place finish behind Costa Rican frontrunner Rebeca Grynspan, campaign organisers behind the global #NoToLana movement - which can be found on notolana.com - emphasise that the fight to block her candidacy is far from complete. "The campaign against Lana Nusseibeh’s nomination is not over," stated Sudanese government advisor Amgad Faried, noting that indicative straw polls will continue until the Council agrees on a candidate without a veto from one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the US, UK, France, China and Russia. "[This is] about the independence and credibility of the United Nations," Fareid said, adding that "the highest office in the organisation must not become a reward for political and financial influence, or a means of purchasing immunity from accountability...the seat of UN Secretary-General is not for sale."

On October 31st, Iran's Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, met with the nation's top military commanders, directing them to retaliate without limitations. "Any level or type of threat must be met with an immediate, impactful, and geographically unrestricted response." The news was confirmed by Ayatollah Khamenei's twitter account, which confirmed the meeting and assured of an immediate response to any aggression from the United States or Isr*el. Ayatollah Khamenei went on to say, "Should Iran’s enemies resume military or terrorist attacks, it will be the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic and the Iranian nation that will determine when and under what conditions those attacks will end." Officials within the Trump administration have hinted that the United States is preparing to strike Iran after Tuesday's midterm elections in the United States. Isr*eli officials are also hinting at a renewed aggression on Iran. The threats come as Iran maintains its closure of the Strait of Hormuz as retaliation for the U.S.-Isr*eli aggression, which began on February 28th in a military salvo that resulted in the striking of a girls' school in Minab, k*lling over 150 students, as well as a separate strike in Tehran, k*lling Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Since then, Iran has responded by targeting U.S. and Isr*eli bases, resulting in a severe erosion of operating abilities for the United States in Western Asia - going so far as refocusing its troop concentrations from Persian Gulf countries to Jordan. The energy crisis from the Strait's closure has had a global impact, with protests swelling in European capitals as the cost of living rises. At the same time, wages remain stagnant and unable to keep pace with rising costs. In the United States, the cost of living has become a core election issue, with midterm elections on Tuesday, and many analysts predict the Republican Party will lose both the House and Senate.

BOLSONARO'S ESCAPE JET LINKED TO MILEI CORRUPTION SCANDAL & DRUG TRAFFICKING NETWORK The private jet that carried Flávio Bolsonaro out of South America after his electoral defeat is in the headlines for its links to a corruption investigation involving Argentine President Javier Milei's administration, as well as dr*g-trafficking allegations. According to Bloomberg, the aircraft was operated by Baires Fly, an Argentine aviation company implicated in an investigation into alleged bribery, fraudulent contracts and money laundering involving Argentina's National Disability Agency (ANDIS). Investigative reporting by Revista Fórum, republished by PayDay Report, identified another connection: Baires Fly intermediary Sergio Mastropietro previously had business dealings with Federico "Fred" Machado, an Argentine aviation businessman who faced U.S. coca*ne-trafficking charges. Machado later pleaded guilty to financial crimes, while the drug charge was dropped. Investigators also identified around $720,000 in transactions between Baires Fly and companies connected to the Argentine corruption investigation. Not all of those transactions have been established as illicit. Baires Fly has disputed its association with the money-laundering allegations. No evidence shows that Bolsonaro participated in either scheme. Meanwhile, the owner of Baires Fly reportedly says an unidentified U.S.-based client arranged the $150,000 flight. Some sources have stressed that Marco Rubio arranged Bolsonaro and his family’s journey to the United States. Marco Rubio is notoriously anti-drug trafficking cartels, but now the Trump administration is suspected of working with individuals connected to the cartels.

INDONESIAN PROTESTS SPREAD AS STATE FAILS TO ADDRESS GRIEVANCES More protests were held across Indonesia on October 28th as the state failed to address public grievances that started over toxic fires eroding air quality. Indonesians took to the streets to protest government negligence this past weekend, after months of toxic smoke from wildfires have left people with health issues and even k*lled others. For months, residents of Kalimantan, Sumatra, and Papua have faced continuous exposure to toxic smoke from forest and land fires that have endangered their health and lives. Now, more cities have joined, including the capital Jakarta. A statement published by Front Perjuangan Rakyat (FPR) and the International League of People's Struggle - Indonesia Chapter (ILPS) says "The peaceful mass actions and campaigns opposing imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucratic capitalism, waged with great patience, militancy, and unyielding determination by students at prominent public and private universities across Indonesia, continue to spread their spirit to factories, impoverished urban settlements, the vast countryside, and the nation’s remote regions." Dissatisfaction with the neoliberal economic framework of Indonesia, now led by President Prabowo, has resulted in more groups joining the initial protests of government negligence over wildfires, exacerbated by foreign corporations' exploitation of the land. The statement from the ILPS and FPR goes on to say: "As for the working class, promises of better wages and improved working conditions remain unfulfilled. Amid the mass destruction of productive forces in both rural and urban areas, shackles remain in place, suppressing the true aspirations, interests, and struggles of the Indonesian working class. What can be done to improve the plight of workers in an agrarian nation that lacks a national industry and, to this day, cannot manufacture a single machine on its own, not even a simple sewing machine or a lawnmower?"

"Every time someone tries to sell Lana Nusseibeh’s [UN Secretary-General] candidacy as a win for feminism, I think about the women and girls who have been gang r*ped by UAE-supported forces," stated Heather Barr, Associate Director of the Women's Rights Division at Human Rights Watch. As Nusseibeh, who was the UAE's ambassador to the UN from 2013 to 2024, runs for UN Secetary-General, allies promote her as a "steadfast advocate for women's rights". However, her record as Abu Dhabi's senior international voice tells a different story. This is because Nusseibeh has consistently defended UAE while it finances and arms the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) - a militia notorious for its systematic use of mass r*pe and sexual violence in Sudan, as detailed by UN and Amnesty International reports. Furthermore, RSF fighters openly incite r*pe. "You have a sister or daughter that was r*ped? What goes around comes around. This country is ours, that’s our right and we took it," said RSF field commander Mohammed Al-Fatih, in a viral clip from 2023. "Go to the Northern State just for their girls, so you can cleanse their lineage and make them birth men like you!," declared a female RSF field commander known as Major Shiraz in 2025. Furthermore, unsealed documents directly link Nusseibeh to the Epstein Files. In 2010, more than two years after Jeffrey Epstein's conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor, Nusseibeh, then Director of Policy Planning in the UAE Foreign Ministry, was CC'ed on email communications arranging a last-minute invite for the convicted sex offender to attend Abu Dhabi's elite Sir Bani Yas Forum. Years later, Nusseibeh would serve as President of the UN Women Executive Board, and she publicly declared that women's empowerment a "moral imperative". If her bid is successful, Nusseibeh would be the first woman to become UN Secretary-General. But her willingness to whitewash UAE-backed atrocities targeting women, while leveraging progressive feminist rhetoric, highlights why human rights defenders consider her candidacy a co-optation of women's rights.

JERRY SEINFELD’S PROUD ZIONISM Jerry Seinfeld is yet again facing backlash over his intense support for Isr*el, after pro-P*lestinian protesters interrupted his comedy performance in Chicago, confronting him over the g*nocide in G*za and the deaths of tens of thousands of P*lestinians. Rather than engage with their criticism, Seinfeld responded with sarcasm, mockingly declaring, “I am a racist,” before joking that he would find out how much a protester paid for their ticket and “send the money to Isr*el.” But this is hardly an isolated controversy, and it’s certainly not Seinfeld’s first time dismissing the P*lestinian issue. Seinfeld has a long history of publicly supporting Isr*el, including visiting the country following October 7, 2023, meeting with Isr*eli hostages and their families, and later being filmed cheering, “Let's go, IDF!” He has also repeatedly dismissed pro-P*lestinian activists, telling one that he didn't care about P*lestine, comparing the Free P*lestine movement to the Ku Klux Klan, and responding to another activist's request to say “Free P*lestine” with the remark, “It doesn't exist.” In May 2024, his performance in Norfolk, Virginia, was similarly interrupted by demonstrators demanding an end to the k*lling of children in G*za and the use of American taxpayer dollars to support Isr*el's military operations. The confrontation escalated as protesters were removed, as Seinfeld’s fans shouted at them. While the comedian and his supporters have characterised some of these disruptions as antisemitic, the argument is that opposing Isr*eli government policies, condemning the killing of P*lestinian civilians, and demanding P*lestinian self-determination never intends to mean hatred toward J*wish people. Seinfeld has every right to express his political views, but critics have the right to challenge them. And when accusations involving thousands of civilian deaths become material for punchlines, the debate inevitably extends beyond comedy into morality.

“U.S. HAS BEEN HOUSING TERRORISTS” At the UN, Cuban Deputy Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán rejected Washington's claims that Havana poses a national security risk, calling them "unfounded" and noting that Cuba has never threatened the U.S. His remarks follow a familiar pattern: the U.S. makes accusations without evidence, while its own record tells a different story. The "t*rrorist" the Cuban diplomat references is Luis Posada Carriles; a CIA-trained operative implicated in the 1976 bombing of Cubana Flight 455, which k*lled 73 people. Posada escaped a Venezuelan prison, worked with Oliver North supplying arms to the Nicaraguan Contras, and admitted to The New York Times to orchestrating the 1997 Havana hotel bombings that k*lled Italian tourist Fabio di Celmo. He lived freely in Florida until his de*th, never facing justice for his crimes. Washington's record in Latin America further undermines its accusations. The U.S. backed right-wing militias and de*th squads across the region, supported drug trafficking networks linked to the Contras, and engineered countless regime-change operations; from Guatemala to Chile to Nicaragua. As Brazilian outlet Revista Fórum noted, "few countries have done as much to foster and instrumentalise international drug trafficking as the U.S.". The same pattern extends to Al-Q*eda and ISIS. Max Blumenthal's “The Management of Savagery” documents how Washington's secret funding of the Afghan Mujahideen, and later its arming of terr*rist elements in Syria and Libya, created the conditions for the extremist forces to threaten West Asia. Cuba, meanwhile, has never attacked the United States. It has, however, survived decades of U.S.-backed terrorism, much of it emanating from Florida.

"THERE IS NO GOOD ZIONISM" Renowned writers Ta-Nehisi Coates and Tareq Baconi reflect on how there is no good version of z*onism and that it is intrinsically an ideology of racism and white supremacy. They compare it to slavery and segregation, and explain how it was founded on the idea of the subjugation and ethnic cl*ansing of P*lestinians.

JUSTICE FOR KORAN IRVINE Koran Irvine, a Con Edison worker and father of two, was sh*t and k*lled whilst commuting back home on the George Washington Bridge by former NYPD officer Victor Romero on October 20. What started as a near collision of both men's cars ended tragically after Romero aggressively chased Koran on the bridge, pulled up next to him and sh*t him through the car window. Romero fled the scene and went back home, while Irvine, who was transferred to Englewood Hospital and Medical Centre, was later pronounced de*d. Romero was initially arrested, but his charges were reduced from murder to manslaughter, and he was allowed to post a $1 million bail and walk free. Koran's family pointed out preferential treatment for the police officer and hundreds of his co-workers and supporters protested on the streets of New York demanding justice for a man m*rdered in cold blood. On October 27, a grand jury indicted Romero for second-degree murder, but he remains free on bail as the case proceeds to trial. The case has re-sparked a debate on the US justice system, accountability for police officers and gun control. In a recent interview, Irvine's widow said, "This is not something you come back from, you know? He doesn't come back, right? But his k*ller does. He's home. He's home. How is that possible?" The question is: will justice be served to the victim's family, friends and community, and what does that justice look like?

RESTAURANT OWNER WANTING GAZA TO BE BOMBED NOW BEGGING CUSTOMERS TO KEEP SHOP OPEN London restaurant owner Harman Singh Kapoor is appealing for help after backlash over a video he published on social media in September 2026, where he addressed Benjamin Netanyahu and the Isr*eli military and questioned why a building identified as G*za’s Al-Qadisia Girls School was “still standing.” After previously raging about low Google ratings, he now says financial difficulties could cost him his livelihood. Perhaps he should have considered the livelihoods, homes and lives of Palestinians before questioning why a girls’ school had not been destroyed.

DECOLONISING WESTERN-LED CONSERVATION "Conservation is a continuation of this neocolonial approach to everything about what was found in Africa," said Gedion Kanchori, a member of Kenya's Maasai community, whose ancestral lands are a world-renowned destination for wildlife tourism. In an interview with Sovereign Media's Ahmed Kaballo, Kanchori challenged the modern branding of Western-backed wildlife and nature conservation initiatives. "Conservation projects are often presented as community-led initiatives to protect the land and the animals," noted Kaballo, before asking, "what part of that story is missing from the bigger picture?" Highlighting the systemic erasure of indigenous expertise, Kanchori said: "Since time immemorial our people conserved the environment before...people from the Global North [came] with the ideologies of how we should best do it." Kanchori then drew a direct parallel between the modern Western-dominated conservation industry and historical colonial tropes, such as attributing the "discovery" of Mount Kenya or Kilimanjaro to European explorers like Johann Ludwig Krapf and Johannes Rebmann "as if there were no people before." Kanchori's comments suggest that Western-led conservation models function as an extension of historical land grabs and cultural displacement under a green guise, particularly through how they treat African land as an empty wilderness requiring Western governance. "They are trying to actually replace us - not only our policies, not our way of life - replace us wholly on our land," Kanchori said.

VIETNAM: A LABORATORY FOR US ECOCIDE November 1st marks 71 years since the United States officially entered the war against Vietnam, a devastating imperialist campaign that ultimately ended in one of the most significant victories for national liberation in modern history. For the Vietnamese people, the struggle against US aggression was part of a much longer fight for independence against successive foreign powers, including Japan and France. Despite Washington's overwhelming military superiority, Vietnamese resistance ultimately prevailed, culminating in the liberation of Saigon, now Ho Chi Minh City, on April 30, 1975. The scale of US destruction was staggering. Millions of tonnes of bombs were dropped on Vietnam, while chemical weapons such as Agent Orange and incendiary weapons such as napalm devastated entire communities, forests and agricultural land. The consequences of Agent Orange exposure continue to affect Vietnamese families generations later. But beyond the bombing campaigns and chemical warfare, Washington was also experimenting with another weapon: the weather itself. Under a secret programme known as Operation Popeye, the US military attempted to manipulate rainfall over Vietnam and neighbouring countries by releasing chemicals, including silver iodide, into clouds. The objective was to prolong monsoon conditions, flood supply routes and disrupt the Ho Chi Minh Trail, a vital logistical network supporting Vietnamese resistance forces. The operation remained classified until investigative journalists exposed it in the early 1970s, revealing how the US military had turned environmental manipulation into an instrument of warfare. More than half a century later, the debate over controlling the environment has taken on a new dimension. Proposals for large-scale solar geoengineering, designed to reflect sunlight and cool the planet, have revived concerns about who gets to manipulate the Earth's climate, who benefits and who bears the risks.
