The Space Biostasis Coalition will unlock $1B in funding by uniting researchers, industry & policymakers, and accelerate biostasis research for space travel.

Tickets for the Space Biostasis Summit are live! Come learn how we'll engineer hypersleep for space exploration, revolutionize emergency and combat casualty care, and change how we even think about medicine here on Earth. summit.spacebiostasis.org/

Strong bones! Many of you asked for more about the bone strength study in my recent post. The area on my shin was numbed with lidocaine and the investigator used this instrument to penetrate to the bone surface and get a reading of the material strength of my tibia. Thanks to lots of exercise on-board the @Space_Station, my tibia was actually stronger than it was pre-flight!

Rest in Peace Walter Koenig. Thank you for navigating us through the final frontier, and bringing us such joy through your years of activism, writing, and memorable characters like the joyous Chekov and the sinister Bester. We're forever grateful that you lent your talents to our game. We'll see you again, in the stars.

getty images spent years watermarking every photo on the internet. sued stability AI for training on their library. demanded the AI companies pay up. called it theft. filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy this week. the AI companies didn't pay. they just... kept going and designers stopped buying stock photos. and the $500 licensing fees stopped making sense when midjourney exists. and the debt piled up. a company whose entire business model was "we own the visual record of human history, pay us" just got outrun by a model that learned from that record and started giving it away for free. The irony is that the watermark is still on every image in the archive. even the ones nobody's licensing anymore.
JUST IN: Getty Images files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after struggling with mounting debt & growing competition from AI-generated images.

Good to have you all back 👩‍🚀
First week back on Earth, a brief recap. Busy times with science, medical tests, physical training and of course a very joyous family reunion. Missing weightlessness, but loving Earth!

A new $50M Biostasis X Prize is in the works. You're welcome, folks.
I'm optimistic that a decade from now, or perhaps less, it will seem unbelievable that we used to wait nine months or more for a specialist. Years for transplants and life-saving medical care to treat diseases.

Another peek at our return to Earth last week, just after our capsule splashed down and we exited the helicopter. I was able to walk and even navigate some obstacles. Things got a bit trickier when the scientists challenged me to close my eyes and try a heel/toe walk (like a “walk the line” sobriety test) as you saw in the previous post (but that can be tricky for anyone, try it!). We still remember how to walk when we return to Earth, but our balance and stability can be challenged as our neurovestibular system readjusts to gravity. Although everyone’s recovery is different, it comes back quickly. From floating to walking in a few hours is a crazy transition, but it got even easier when I got back to Houston and was supported by my daughter’s hand!

Radiation is a huge hazard in orbit, and much more so the farther we go from LEO. It's unlikely the dose received would max out their career total, unless there were anomalies, but these things happen. We will talk about new countermeasures at summit.spacebiostasis.org
Its my belief that these 4 received a serious radiation dose during their mission that precludes them from flying again. It would explain why all four have resigned or been taken off flight status permanently. @astro_reid @AstroVicGlover @Astro_Jeremy @Astro_Christina @NASAAdmin

We have to do more. We can do more. We are bringing together the top space medicine, hibernation, and cryobiology researchers for that reason, at the Space Biostasis Summit, February 2027.

Jared is the nuclear power behind modern NASA. The race is on. Propulsion is important to get us farther, but current countermeasures for microgravity and radiation damage are lacking. Metabolic depression solves many of these problems, enabling safe hypersleep and evacuation (SAR). nitter.siddz.com/NASAAdmin/status/21081…
We’re getting America underway on nuclear power in space and ushering in the era of a Nuclear NASA. With the signing of an MOU with @ENERGY, we’re taking the next giant leap toward exploring the outer solar system and sending American astronauts to Mars. Fission power will help us travel farther, operate longer, and power more capable scientific instruments.

Can cryopreserved brains retain memories? Our ecosystem partner @cryodao joins forces with legendary scientist Greg Fahy to find out!
officially announcing the next @cryodao research project: $259,000 for "TOTAL RECALL" 🧊🧠 setting out to prove that complex mammalian memory can survive cryopreservation with legendary cryobiologist greg fahy and principal investigator regina monaco two complementary approaches will be pursued: testing whether learned responses survive cryopreservation in neural cultures and/or hippocampal slices, and whether the molecular changes associated with training are preserved together, these approaches target one of the central questions for cryopreservation: can the information underlying memory survive?

You can always do a lot of fun physics in space, but you can only eat the apples you bring with you from Earth. How much food would we need to bring with us for longer trips? A tiny fraction, it turns out - if we crack metabolic depression in humans. In space, biostasis on demand saves lives (and apples!)
Physics corner with Captain Jack. He'll be leaving in a few days on Crew-12 so we are trying to learn as much as we can before he goes. Today we did spacewalk prep together and this weekend we ate our last apple.

That's the future we're working toward
We’re going back to the Moon to stay. Building a Moon Base means giving American astronauts the infrastructure to explore more, conduct more science, and prepare for missions farther into our solar system. That’s the future we’re working toward at @NASA.

Jump-squats on the Moon in 208x radiation (vs Earth) as a countermeasure to bone and muscle loss in space? I think we should find a better alternative... (although it does look like a lot of fun)
Jumping on the moon as exercise countermeasure. 🆙🌗 -Jumping at ~20% bodyweight in Lunar gravity can provide effective cardio and muscle exercise. Heart rate and oxygen use rise with jump height, offering a promising countermeasure for space health. physoc.onlinelibrary.wiley.c…
