Ministers and politicians policing how men should dress and making it a moral issue is quite interesting, because not paying school fees for Orphans and Vulnerable Children is not seen as a moral failure. How do we have leaders that invoke morality or God and Christianity whenever they want but continue to fail to honor commitment to OVC? Doesn't the Bible say true religion is taking care of the orphans and the widows? Anyway, US$292 million is owed and BEAM, which ensures that these children stay in school, is not prioritised. They hide behind that no child should be chased away from school because of fees, but we know it's not true on the ground. I bet many children dropped out of school because of this govt neglecting its duty. This is a moral failure more than anything. The same leaders who loot our national coffers, and are okay with bribing to remain in power, cannot be preaching to us about dressing honestly. This should be the least of their worries. Looting, stealing, bribery, corruption, and neglecting the Vulnerable denies them any moral authority.

This is what I meant by the third hand. The xenophobic tensions and attacks were real, But so was the extra effort to amplify them online, And portray South Africans as inherently xenophobic. Today, Following the appointment of a Muslim Deputy Minister, We are again seeing a flood of online outrage that seems disconnected from South Africa's long history of religious tolerance. First it was genocide, Then it was xenophobia, Today it is Islamophobia. The spotlight on South Africa, And the speed of the pivot, Show there is a third hand. The targets may change, But the pattern remains the same: A constant search for a new fault line. ##PrayforAfrica
The propaganda being sold is that Black South Africans are barbaric, violent and uncivilised. This is White supremacist propaganda, And we cannot analyse the impending #June30 protests, Outside of that lens. White supremacists lied that Black South Africans were perpetrating genocide against White South Africans, They still have egg on their face due to this lie. But if 30 June results in mass violence against Black foreigners, White supremacists will rejoice & say you see, This is what we've been trying to tell you about "these people". It's sad to see the genuine grievances of Black South Africans, Being weaponised against them by global & domestic racist systems. Because we all know that Black South Africans are disenfranchised, Impoverished, & Excluded from the South African economy. It is neither here nor there the extent to which foreigners worsen this disenfranchisement, Fact is they are victims, And their grievances are real. Unfortunately, As in most cases where grievances exist, Their disillusionment due to their current circumstances, Has been hijacked by the very systems which brought upon the inequality in the first place. The goal could be to destabilise South Africa, And paint Black South African victims of inequality, As the aggressor. Classic DARVO! When they succeed in doing so, They will swoop in to "save the day", To restore and justify White supremacy, As they would have "proven" Black people are not only ungovernable, They are also unable to govern. Of course there's also the ICC case vs Israel. What is happening in SA is not unique to SA. Anti migrant sentiments are common everywhere, But when Brits, Americans, or the Irish perpetrate violence against migrants, The global media blames "fringe far-right groups", While anti-migrant violence in Africa is pathologised as a cultural trait, Red-flagging an entire population as inherently xenophobic. I am Zimbabwean, &My heart bleeds for the unfortunate foreigners in SA who are at the mercy of this manipulated rebellion, But I would be lying if I said I don't see the third hand, The geopolitical actors, intelligence networks, and digital disinformation campaigns, Present in the majority of conflicts in Africa and the Middle East. Did South African policies post apartheid, Ever focus on the grassroots reintergration of South Africans with the rest of Africa? Pan-African ideals like the African Renaissance remained at the macro leadership level, While ordinary South Africans remained isolated from the rest of Africa. It's short sighted to expect victims of oppression, To welcome what they view as more competitors for scarce resources, When little effort was made, To incentivise travel by South Africans to other countries. This brotherhood that we speak of, Is cold comfort to people who have known nothing but oppression. This is such a difficult issue to talk about, It needs sensitivity and careful nuance. Xenophobia is wrong. But focusing on Xenophobia, While ignoring the grievances that led us here, Is as futile as focusing on foreigners, Without interrogating the regional economic collapses pulling foreigners into South Africa, The corporate appetite for cheap unregulated labor, As well as the corrupt border management systems letting foreigners in. But above all, None of these conflicts can ever be solved, Without properly addressing the lasting inequality which was caused by, and left by Apartheid. The South African government has the responsibility to take their citizens grievances seriously, And they have the responsibility to address the inequality in South Africa. In the same breath, The International community has the responsibility to protect refugees. First by intervening meaningfully in the conflicts displacing people, From Sudan, DRC, Zimbabwe & other countries. The International community can't just be good for condemning #Xenophobia , An end result, Without stopping the conflicts pushing people out of their countries. #PrayforAfrica

Yesterday’s FIFA World Cup Opening showed what this handful of hateful Ntelezi idiots have done for South Africa’s international reputation and decades of goodwill. All the genuine outrage against illegal immigration has drowned under their violent acts, human rights violations and threats while they run around the country barefoot telling us they are “men” Decades of goodwill built on international solidarity, opposition to Israeli genocide in Palestine, cooperation with other nations, gone to dust. Football is a global language where even politics find expression, and these jokes about how SA at the World Cup is in a “rush to go home and defend their jobs and women” or how “They can’t attack Mexico because they are not African and Black” - this is not only banter, it’s political satire It shows how the world view is shifting towards viewing South Africa as a hub of hate, something that has never been part of our identity. I mean we are being compared to Argentina and Morocco, who have committed human rights atrocities against Africans respectively. The State should take responsibility for allowing hate groups which stop children at clinics, schools, beat people and in some instances incite murder, to define our international identity. It’s not a joke, and we cannot banter our way out of it. It’s a stain. South Africa being regarded as the hate capital of Africa at a FIFA World Cup would have been unimaginable in 2010. Israel is smiling wherever it is, because its mission accomplished. We have lost our moral authority on the global stage.

Twitter gives the bigot, the unashamed, the ignorant the ability to say things they wouldn’t say to their colleagues, families and friends who aren’t bigoted and ignorant. It continues to amaze me how it gives people the ability to broadcast their stupidity with zero fear.
