Sportingintelligence: A perpetually sceptical attempt to make sense of sport's relationship with money. Interested in conmen & numbers. Reassuringly grumpy.

Stefan's own view (in private, which he won't ever air in public) is MCFC always asked Abu Dhabi for cash and then tried to make it look legit after the fact. So nothing to see here? I'll look forward to him addressing this on his next TalkSport appearance.
See the timeline of MCFC’s arch propagandist, @slbsn, to see how triggered that faction of the City support have become. Any neutral would be questioning why this is taking so long as opposed to attacking anyone asking why it’s taking so long.

Like the 115 case itself, the potential ramifications - and the benefits to City from cheating - stretch way, way beyond the things that seem most obvious

Can’t claim to know Harry Kane on any personal level but made up for the guy. Friendly on + off camera. The model professional. A guy who seems to just want to play football and not seek much else. Happens to be very good at it.
Swazz. We don’t talk enough about it. Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane obliged whilst helping to educate @Hitz_the_Hammer on the concept after his strike in Bayern’s 3-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt.

I was having a weekend away in Paris visiting a friend. Pre-mobile and pre-internet (for me), I'd phoned my mum about 5pm UK time from a landline to ask her to look at Ceefax for the football scores. She said it said was 6-3 to Saints. I told her that her telly was on the blink.
#OnThisDay 1996 Southampton put 6 past Manchester United. Egil Ostenstad (@Egilostenstad) 2, Eyal Berkovic 2, Matt Le Tissier (@mattletiss7) and a Phil Neville own goal with the Saints goals 🔴⚪️ #SaintsFC

The YouTube version of a pod I recorded 2 wks ago with @DuncanCastles about MCFC case. I was "on holiday" in Cornwall at the time. Hugely gratified about the positive feedback. And if you want somewhere gorgeous to go in Cornwall, go to Watergate Bay. piped.video/watch?v=NjsJyay0…

I wanted to write a 1,500-word piece about oligarchs, foreign money and how English football was changing. My editor wanted 200 words until I told him there was a lingerie model in the story.

It would be fascinating to get inside the head of a brainwashed Man City fan and follow their thought processes and contortions over over the past few years. If anyone knows who @Woody7716 (or similar) is, drop me an email, and I'll ask them about their experience.

EIGHT years since the PL started gathering evidence in 2018. Three and a half years since 115 charges. Two years since 12-week hearing when mcfc could produce “irrefutable” evidence of innocence (rejected). Your “no evidence” argument is therefore garbage.
Ok mate your opinion but still no evidence.

Weekend No750 of waking up to Man City fans hurling abuse, often mild like this from @realchriswood, who doesn’t follow me, never reads my work, but has decided journalism is rage bait because … his football team. Have a lovely Sunday, Chris.
You again. Abuse is not great especially personal ones. I read his articles and wonder why he calls himself a journalist. Not proper or excellent it’s poor, driven by obsession and full of bias, he uses rage for clicks, not sure why you reward him? Maybe you can buy your awards?

It's got to be you, Fab. For your entirely consistent reporting on Man City, both via your forensic work on the guilty verdicts and the years of controversy and previous punishments, and for your hagiography coverage of wins such as today's 3-2 versus Ipswich.
🍿 Haaland brace and Foden goal for Man City win against Ipswich Town! 7 games, 7 wins in Premier League. Who’s been your Man of the Match?

Unbelievable achievement. And massive props to the Man City commercial department for generating the funds to buy, build and pay a squad of such talents over more than a decade.

Hi Veejay, your "how it reads for me" seems a little extreme. I don't want anyone destroyed. I don't want City punished out of existence. But if upheld after appeal(s), the many guilty verdicts of egregious cheating should be suitably punished. As should any other club's cheating

The Tribune revisit the Rob Beal story, which was always extraordinary, and still is, and not in a good way
Over the past 20 years, Sheffield man Rob Beal has worked as a senior civil servant, become an expert in airline safety, and hob-nobbed with football bigwigs from Qatar. But none of that is true. He is actually Sheffield’s most successful media hoaxster. sheffieldtribune.co.uk/confr…

There are multiple voices in the media landscape who are getting paid - in cash or kind - to paint #ManCity in a good light, or as still innocent. Who, and why? @sportingintel at your service 👇Excellent piece. sportingintelligence832.subs…
