There should be more care over calling stealth addresses a privacy solution. It allows the sender to generate an address for the recipient in a non-interactive manner, replacing the need for the recipient to send a new (and unlinked) payment address. That is it. Should be viewed as a more convenient method for sending to the recipient as opposed to a strong privacy solution.

Bank for International Settlements (BIS) working with HK Monetary Authority & Polytech University to explore privacy-preserving payments for central banks via ZKPs. Goal being to allow nearly all transactions to remain private on the ledger, but for options to selectively open and still adhere to KYC/AML requirements via existing legal frameworks. Kinda cool and it is just flying under the radar.

We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence. block.xyz/dessa

This view is a bit too binary. There are many problems that don’t require one to be a user of the system — like consensus or improving snarks. That’s OK since they are core comp sci problems. However, the main issue today, is that many problems facing Ethereum are user experience issues caused by the platform itself. If the core developers are not using the platform — from an actual usage or building on top of perspective — then they cant properly prioritise the issues that need to be fixed. This is why there was so misplaced hype around long term strawman proposals vs fixing low hanging fruit (like sponsored transactions or increasing gas limits) that would immediately help users. Core Developers, EF, everyone involved needs to treat Ethereum the network as a product and not an ideological-driven machine.
look the foundational problem with ethereum protocol design is that most of the people designing the protocol don't actually use ethereum themselves. you can't fix the right things if you don't use your own fucking product. you don't have enough skin in the game if you don't personally depend on the system you're designing & stand to lose money when it breaks. i understand, everything looks great from an ivory tower lol. things look very different when you're actually on the ground dealing with the consequences. if you don't use ethereum yourself but still think you're qualified to design its protocol, you're playing god with a system you don't have to live with and whose consequences you don't have to suffer.

In light of the issues with 8037 and 8038, I realized I don't post my opinion publicly as much as maybe I should 😅 so personal retro: tldr; I really don't like these EIPs. They only allow us to increase gas limit without solving the fundamental problem of ever an growing state.

Are there any research events or meet ups happening at Devcon? Quite interested to see what different groups are working on now

I’d probably recommend avoiding any DeFi transactions over the next few days if doable. Too many exploits in the wild right now. Stay safe frens.

I highly recommend cloudflare's security audit skill: github.com/cloudflare/securi… Run it on all your software. Run it with the free models. Use it even if you used a model to audit something - it will find much more things. Works in all agent harnesses and is model independent.

PHP vuln is so bad NSA is out here on twitter shouting at strangers about it
Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

Who needs to break discrete log when the implementation landscape is still a minefield
Imagine you wake up and: - PHP has two critical vulnerabilities, rated 9.2, and exploitation has already started, even before the fix was published. There's not fix for old versions... cybersecuritynews.com/php-ea… - Node.js has four high vulnerabilities, including arbitrary code execution. nodejs.org/en/blog/vulnerabi… - Eight TLS intermediates have private keys of 3 to 8 bits. I don't believe in conspiracy theories, but... arstechnica.com/security/202… All of this is in the field. Millions of machines are vulnerable. Most of them will not be patched in the near future and you can't really trust TLS anymore... The state of security is really, really frightening. And it won't get better anytime soon. 🫠
