This is silly but I turned DOOM into a font The entire game state is calculated inside the font from the sequence of letters you type

One of the best free open-source Chromium-based browsers with built-in blockers, anti-tracking, no data collection, and full extension support. Another great alternative to Arc ✨

Ghostty 1.4 is now out! Full Kitty graphics with animation (the first terminal besides Kitty to do it), scrollback compression for much lower memory usage, macOS 27 support, a new OpenGL renderer on Linux, ghostty +ssh, big performance gains, and hundreds more changes. The highlights: - Scrollback compression: scrollback compresses ~90+% on average, meaning your terminals use that much less live memory - Huge memory savings across the board: no single large thing, just lots of good improvements lowers memory usage everywhere, netting anywhere from 50 to 90% less memory usage depending on workload - Kitty graphics is now 100% complete, including animation and relative placements, after a full conformance pass against the spec and Kitty itself - The Kitty clipboard protocol, with an image preview when a program asks to read your clipboard - Split drag and drop on Linux, including between windows - ghostty +ssh installs terminfo on remote hosts automatically, so things just work over SSH - Lots of terminal emulation accuracy fixes This release is 7 months of work from 172 contributors over 2,889 commits. It also fixes 10 security advisories, so please update. Full release notes: ghostty.org/docs/install/rel…

How is the internet less private than in 2006, when the whole family shared one computer? Back then, the internet was weird, personal, and all of ours. So, we got your favorite meme legends back together to say it louder: What happened to the internet? 1/3

iPhone Duo is here! Excited to have worked on the design of our open/close transition. It’s designed to make the two displays feel like one seamless experience by perceptually bending the focal plane, not the content, so that it feels like opening a window onto a singular view.

We're starting to see some agentic Rust forks (or alternative implementations) focused on iteration speed. More-so than the specific projects, I'm interested in the ideas being explored (and how they could evolve upstream), so wanted to collate a few here...

AnyPS5 progress is absolutely insane. GPU Shader Instructions is now about 96 percent translated, and system lib. is almost 80% This lets PS5 games run 'natively' on PC by translating API calls the PS5 uses to PC (eg, Vulkan for graphics) X86 cpu stuff runs natively.
On the AnyPS5 front, there's been some great progress made. Just over half of the GPU instructions now are being mapped correctly and system library is over 75% Again, this allows PS5 games to run 'natively' on PC without an emulator.

I think I’m done mourning the death of programming. I’m ready to love again. I landed like 40 PRs while drinking with my friends in Scotland. This is the dream.

> you will never beat the compiler nobody intelligent has ever said this. it is very easy to beat GCC on perf. the problem is that I cannot convert 100,000 lines of C code into assembly in a few seconds.
For a long time the conventional wisdom was: "don't write asm by hand, you will never beat the compiler" Now we have AGI beating the compiler When optimizing for perf it can just read the compiler generated asm and map it back to the source instantly, 1000x faster than a human could And I notice it finds lots of stupid shit the compiler does like spilling registers to the stack, not keeping hot values in registers etc Instead of struggling to massage and coerce the compiler to generate the optimal output, sometimes it's just better to just straight up get the model to generate the asm And any perf optimizations it misses it can just steal back from the original compiler output And obv it can generate it for every CPU architecture and know the intimate details of each one and optimize Probably not practical yet for all software due to context window size and speed, but super useful for generating optimal code for some small to mid sized functions
