You can only speak eloquently about things you know well. Honing speaking skills is about as useful as attempting to teach reading comprehension skills: there are a small number of useful strategies, but by far the best way is to teach subject knowledge exceptionally well. 1/
We’re hardwiring oracy into the revised National Curriculum, so speaking, listening, and communicating will light up every classroom. Read @LucyMPowell's speech in full: gov.uk/government/speeches/e…

When I started teaching there was a fervent buzz of the Scandinavian miracle. Finland especially were crushing pisa and everyone wanted to know how. So today we can feel very proud that other countries look to us.
New PISA data out- and a huge success story. England is now a top-10 education system in the world. Outside of Asia, one of the highest. New PISA 2025 results: Science: 8th in the world, up from 13th Reading: 9th, up from 13th Maths: 10th, up from 11th. While much of the OECD has gone backwards, England has has held its ground while most of the world has gone backwards. Huge achievement by school staff.

Next up is @pete___lee, founding headteacher of Q3 Langley. I’ve visited Pete’s school a couple of times and have boundless respect for him and what the team has achieved there. He kicks off with some optimism - being a headteacher is the best job in the world! #rEd26

Next session is @StuartLock who has a session on when high standards are unpopular. He starts with his ‘credentials’ in this area, showing he’s no stranger to the pressure of holding the line. #rEd26

Had the mist amazing day at #rED26! The only problem today was that were so many sessions I wanted to attend! Also of extreme value are the conversations which take place over coffee and lunch. Thank you to all the speakers and helpers who made today possible, but especially thank you @tombennett71 @hgaldinoshea and team.
