🌍 At Voices of the Ocean, we spoke with Lulu Miller, Peabody Award-winning science journalist, internationally bestselling author, and NPR program host, about her connection to the ocean and why it offers such a compelling subject for storytelling. During the event, Lulu shared the remarkable story of a whale calf birth, accompanied by footage revealing the extraordinary communal behaviors of marine life. 🌊🐠🐡 We asked her: 🔹What makes a story powerful enough to change the way someone sees the world? 🔹How can communication and storytelling strengthen the conservation movement, and why are they so important? 🔹What makes environmental communication effective in raising awareness and inspiring action? ▶️ Hear Lulu’s perspective @rbalsaud @ConservNtn @FII_Institute1 @lmillernpr #voto #OceanRegeneration

🌍 At Voices of the Ocean, we engaged with speaker Tom Mustill, award-winning author, filmmaker, biologist, and FishEye Fellow, about his connection to the ocean and the power of storytelling to bring us closer to the natural world. At the event, Tom joined FishEye Collaborative Founder and Executive Director Mark Dantzker to present to the Library of Congress the largest publicly accessible natural sound collection of fish species from the United States and from across the entire Pacific Ocean. 🌊🐠🐡 We asked him: 🔹 As both a scientist and a storyteller, what is missing from the way we communicate the challenges facing the ocean? 🔹 If you could have a conversation with any animal, which would it be, and why? ▶️ Hear Tom’s perspective @rbalsaud @ConservNtn @FII_Institute1 @tommustill #voto #OceanRegeneration

🌊 On October 6, 2026, Wave and Conservation Nation convened more than 300 stakeholders to listen to the ocean’s voice through the words of the world-renowned authors, scientists, and oceanographers who know it best. 🌊 🎙️ Internationally bestselling author Sy Montgomery spoke about her love of the ocean and the animals that call it home. Sy writes for adults and children, for print and broadcast, in America and overseas in an effort to reach as wide an audience as possible at what she considers a critical turning point in human history. She is a New York Times bestselling author, and her book, The Soul of an Octopus, was a National Book Award Finalist. We asked her: 🔹 What can animals teach us about being human? 🔹 If you could borrow one ability from an ocean animal, what would it be? 🔹 What do we gain when we see the world from an animal’s perspective? Hear Sy’s answers and discover the ocean through her eyes. ▶️ @rbalsaud @ConservNtn @FII_Institute1 #voto #OceanRegeneration

Today is #InternationalSawfishDay 🌍 🌊🦈 Sawfish are among the ocean’s most unique and mysterious creatures, famous for their long, toothed snouts. With only five species remaining, they face a real risk of extinction. Today, we celebrate these remarkable animals and highlight the urgent need to protect them and the habitats they depend on. 🌱💙 #Sawfish #OceanHabitats #MarineBiodiversity #SawfishDay #OceanRegeneration

🌊 On October 6, 2026, at Voices of the Ocean, @FishEyeCollaborative presented a collection of fish sounds from Hawai’i’s coral reefs to the @librarycongress. The recordings represent the first and largest publicly accessible natural sound collection of fish species from the United States and from across the entire Pacific Ocean. 💙 In a ceremony on the steps of the Great Hall, Conservation Nation Co-founder Doro Bush Koch, Wave Operations Lead Sian Tichar, and FishEye Collaborative Founder and Executive Director Marc Dantzker and writer, filmmaker, and FishEye Fellow Tom Mustill presented a copy of the recordings to Acting Librarian of Congress Robert R. Newlen. 🐠🐡🔉 These recordings stand at the frontier of listening to animals and represent a small glimpse of the myriad voices still to be discovered in the world’s oceans. In 2010, the Library of Congress honored the 1970 “Songs of the Humpback Whale,” recording that changed how Americans see the ocean. Today, by adding the first fish sounds to the Library’s archives, the hope is that all ocean voices will be valued, kept safe, and available to the world for study and wonder. 💙 🌍🌱 @rbalsaud @ConservNtn @FII_Institute1 @tommustill #voto #OceanRegeneration
