Top Marks, Everyone Great work. Now please do something about British infrastructure
‘The electoral legacy of our Age of Migration and the studied mismanagement of multiculturalism, is low-trust, low-consensus societies… interethnic competition, institutional capture and a shift in how government manages the public.’ @WSJFreeEx wsj.com/opinion/free-express…

Everyone would surely like to help the police with their inquiries here, but maybe it would assist the good people of Hampshire IF YOU ISSUED DESCRIPTIONS OF THE ATTACKERS. Or were they wearing invisibility cloaks? What is it?

What the actual fuck is wrong with the UK government? Encourage mosques to invite ISIS supporting refugees to come live in in Britain, simultaneously restrict the rights of native Brits to go work in Australia They just hate British people. There is no alternative explanation
🚨🇦🇺 NEW: Andy Burnham and Anthony Albanese are set to discuss increasing restrictions on British backpackers using Working Holiday Visas in Australia Proposals include removing an exemption that means Brits don’t have to do rural work to extend their visa as well as the introduction of a migration cap

Gin and tonic. Chicken tikka masala - invented in Glasgow. Apple crumble (or anything crumble). Sticky toffee pudding. Kedgeree. Pasties. Custard. IPA - India Pale Ale. Punch. The chocolate bar (Fry's) - before the Brits it was a drink. Sherry trifle. Ginger beer. Marmalade
People eat British food more than they realise: • Sandwiches • Bacon & eggs for breakfast • Apple pie • Mac & cheese • Tonkatsu sauce, salsa inglese (worcestershire) • Modern sponge cake, pound cake etc. • Hotel style afternoon tea • English muffins • Cheddar cheese • Earl grey tea • Shortbread

I was on the press trip on the inaugural Concorde flight to Barbados It was called “the most expensive press trip in PR history”. All the journalists stayed at Sandy Lane and they drove us everywhere in Rolls Royces On the last day us hacks were gathered on the beach, given champagne - and Concorde flew over & dipped its wings to us
Britain used to be so rich we sent out Concordes to Barbados because Brits liked to holiday in Bridgetown

Melancholy realisation. Every single sci fi movie, book, opera, cartoon, TV show, that has humans in space-ships exploring the cosmos - is wrong. We won’t go. AI will go. It can live forever, it can be made invulnerable. We will stay on earth, at most sending sperm and eggs to other planets

Further thought. This will then create a virtuous loop. As poorer countries finally get access to endless smarts and world class advice, they will grow rich, fast. The pressures to emigrate will swiftly abate, thus alleviating migrant pressure on richer countries. Win Win
Here's a more cheering thought for a grey November day. Lots of "third world" countries struggle with terrible governance & flight of intellectual capital. Their smartest people emigrate. AI will completely fix this. It will provide superb government, and infinite intelligence

One has to wonder about the “reverse Flynn effect” - the verified observation that average IQs are dropping in the developed world. Various explanations have been advanced, but perhaps some of it is just importing people from lower IQ societies
A British five-year-old is now shorter than a five-year-old in North Korea. In 1985 British five-year-olds ranked 69th in the world for height. By 2019 the girls had fallen to 96th and the boys to 102nd. A British boy of five is shorter than one in North Korea, in Haiti and in Libya. A Dutch boy of five stands 7cm taller than him. A Bulgarian boy stands 8cm taller. The experts blamed austerity. Bulgaria has a fraction of Britain's money. It also has its name on the bacteria in your yoghurt, and its children grow up on yoghurt and white cheese. Dutch children grow up on milk with lunch and cheese on their bread. British children get the Eatwell plate. A third of it starch, cereal at breakfast, semi-skimmed from the age of two, red meat cut back, and a fruit pouch for being good. British boys of five have grown about a centimetre since 1985. Thirty years of telling children to eat more starch and less fat, and the rest of the world walked straight past them.

NARRATOR: we have, in fact, just imported lots of short people. Who have short children

AI movie making is now insanely good. This would have won every prize in the world, for the best music video, in 2006, or 2016

Gemini Argon is genuinely hilarious This is Gemini and me discussing the recent German version of “All Quiet On The Western Front”. I’m despairing of the bombastic and contrived ending (after a great movie). Now we move on to the stupid music, and Gemini responds…

Thesis: when classical music became boringly atonal, all the best "traditional" composers shifted to the movie biz, and wrote luscious soundtracks eg The soundtrack to Pride & Prejudice (2005), by Dario Marianelli. This is as good as mid-season Chopin piped.video/watch?v=-vYY0aRH…

We are doomed
Here's an astonishing stat: Just over half of all visas granted to care workers in 2023 were sponsored by employers that have since lost their licences, mostly due to fraud or abuse. That’s ~200,000 people once you include dependants. None of them have had their visas revoked.
