Every claim or reimbursement decision is only as good as the evidence behind it.
That was the starting point for this morning’s fireside chat at the MAPconnected Service & Warranty Lifecycle Network's annual summit.
Craig Stack and Sedgwick's Wayne Mitchell walked through how AI-generated photos are changing warranty fraud, and what it takes to automate claims safely.
A few takeaways from today's session:
🔷 AI tools can now edit a VIN or generate convincing vehicle damage in seconds. Most of this fraud is opportunistic & it slips through small gaps in the process.
🔷 The answer isn’t chasing every sophisticated deepfake tactic. It’s closing the gap where the photo comes in, by authenticating it at the moment of capture.
🔷 Once the evidence can be trusted, AI can move routine claims forward, and people can focus on the judgment calls and exceptions.
Thank you to Wayne and the Sedgwick team for a great conversation, to Pam Walter for hosting, and to everyone who stopped by the Truepic booth this week.

3 recent developments point to the same enterprise challenge: distinguishing authentic digital content from deceptive or fabricated content.
1. OpenAI and Meta told the federal Advisory Committee on Evidence Rules not to count on detection as a reliable answer.
2. Risk professionals ranked AI-enabled fraud and data authenticity as leading claims concerns.
3. New retail research found deliberate return fraud is a verification problem.
Across courts, claims, and commerce, decisions depend on evidence teams can trust. Authentication at capture establishes where visual evidence came from before it enters a workflow, giving every decision a stronger starting point.

“It is clear that AI is playing a growing role in decisions once made solely by humans... Decisions of consequence must be grounded in reality.”
In his new @techpolicypress op-ed, Mounir Ibrahim argues that image authentication should be a condition of AI-driven decisions.
From insurance claims to product returns, the question extends beyond what AI sees to whether the evidence is authentic. Verifying images at capture gives businesses a stronger foundation for decisions with real consequences.

For Insurers: A suspicious image can raise a flag. Image authenticity empowers a claims team to act immediately.
Join @Verisk and Truepic on Oct 14 for "From Signal to Resolution: A Layered Approach to Claims Evidence." We’ll follow a realistic auto claim to show how Verisk’s Digital Media Forensics can surface concerns in existing media, and how newly captured, authenticated evidence from Truepic can help adjusters validate the loss and decide whether further investigation is needed.
Tiffany Beeson of Verisk & Craig Stack of Truepic will discuss how the two capabilities operate within the ClaimSearch® ecosystem.

AI is helping insurers move faster, but the value depends on the information it reviews. For submissions built on photos and videos, the answer starts at content capture.
Authenticating the source, device, time, and location helps insurers verify evidence before it enters the insurer's process.

We're seeing more of these stories, especially in lending.
As @calebjacobs0611 at @thedrive reported, a Tier 1 auto lender checked the VIN, verified the dealer, and still wired $36K for a car that never existed. Every piece of "proof," the photos, the paperwork, even the GPS tracking link, was seemingly generated or spoofed after the fact.
This is exactly why lenders, insurers, and financial institutions run on Truepic Vision. Authentication at the moment of capture. Fraud and suspicious activity get flagged, legitimate business moves faster.
