It was a pleasure to welcome the Secretary of State for Wales, Jo Stevens MP, to New York this week as part of her trade mission to the United States and Canada.
Following her Wales Office/Swyddfa Cymru reception at Aston Martin’s stunning new NYC showroom, a nod to one of Wales’ most iconic industrial success stories, we were honoured to host her at The Liberty NYC, the spiritual home of New York Welsh, the largest on-the-ground Welsh diaspora organisation in the U.S.
Last night, we shared the success of our group, under the backdrop of our gorgeous Welsh flag, and some of the girls', women’s, and mixed-ability sport teams we’ve helped fund. We also highlighted how we connect the Welsh diaspora in New York and make a tangible contribution back to Wales. We even had some Penderyn and Wrexham Lager for our guests.
It was great to hear the Secretary of State’s ambitions for Brand Wales, and how the UK Government is working to attract further trade and investment into Wales, spotlighting key sectors like life sciences, aerospace, steel, and advanced manufacturing. With more than £2 billion in goods and services exported to North America each year, the ties between Wales and this side of the Atlantic are not just cultural, they’re commercial, strategic, and growing. This visit also coincides with UK Government’s publication of its Industrial Strategy and aims to highlight Wales as a key destination for inward investment into the UK.
At New York Welsh, we’re proud to champion Wales on the world stage. Whether it’s through business, sport, or the arts, we look forward to supporting these efforts and spreading the word. If you're in New York City as your home, for business or for pleasure, come and see us:
