Those plastic bottles scattered across our streets are worth more than most people realise.
You've probably seen collectors in Lagos dragging carts or carrying enormous sacks filled with them.
One collector told Nairametrics that coloured bottles sell for ₦200 per kilogram, while clear ones go for ₦250.
But there's something else about those bottles that got me thinking. 🧵

And @esginglobal has started taking steps towards building this.
Its Indonesian web app launched in June 2026.
Two months later, ESGIN signed an agreement with Indonesia's Plastic Recycling Association and Carbon Trade Association to explore better recycling records, verification and environmental credit opportunities.
These are early developments, though. The larger system and its planned commercial uses still need to prove themselves at scale.

I keep thinking about those collectors carrying sacks of plastic through Lagos.
They already earn from the materials they recover. What ESGIN is exploring is whether the work behind that collection can also be properly documented, recognised and potentially rewarded.
It's an interesting possibility for communities like ours.
And I'd love to see how far @esginglobal can take it.

Now, there's a project called @esginglobal that wants to take this further.
Through its ESG-IN platform, the idea is to give environmental activities a record that can be checked and followed.
So instead of someone simply claiming they collected waste, the activity can be documented with evidence.
And this is where its technology comes in.

For example, you participate in a community cleanup.
Through ESG-IN, you could submit photos or videos of the work, along with information such as the location and time.
The platform is designed to use AI to examine these submissions and identify suspicious or repeated records.
That helps with one part of verification.

But even a genuine photograph doesn't prove that the collected waste reached a recycling facility.
That's why ESGIN also wants to work with existing waste collection centres through what it calls ESG Banks.
These partners would help confirm and record what actually comes through their facilities.

Remember that beverage company funding cleanups across 20 communities?
With proper records, it could find out how much waste was collected, which locations participated and what happened to the materials.
ESGIN wants to provide such information to businesses that need environmental reports or want to sponsor verified activities.
That's one of the ways it plans to earn revenue.
