BECOMING a billionaire (by satisfying our wants) makes the rest of us fabulously richer! Read @VeroDeRugy at @TownHallCom. Every time @ChrisPappasNH slams billionaires, he slams America—by parroting the #Marxist envy jive that someone else's cash means you've been robbed.

Thank you @adamnmichel and @CatoInstitute for convening such a great discussion. Subsidizing Hollywood with taxpayer dollars is a bad idea, especially given our fiscal trajectory. Seems like an odd priority for Congress.
Thanks to @gordontrac and @_JackSalmon_ for helping us explain why Congress should be skeptical of plans to send billions in new subsidies to Hollywood. And thanks to the congressional staff who packed the room! @mercatus @TaxPolicyCenter

Peter C. Earle (@peter_c_earle ) of AIER on what big fortunes are really made of (factories, equipment, property and ideas, not cash in a vault) and what a wealth tax does to the savings and capital that make workers more productive. The full conversation on Qualified Opinions with Véronique de Rugy (@veroderugy) is below.
In the new episode of Qualified Opinions, @veroderugy speaks with @Dave_Hebert, @Econ_Goggles, and @peter_c_earle about Trump, a national wealth tax, and the push to rename everything. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

I wrote the following in 2023: "The reason why this matters is that the vast majority of Zucman’s work builds off the 2003 paper (notably with how they poorly create denominators for total income) by Piketty and Saez. They have never updated that work and Zucman just keeps repeating it. As a result, I admit that I consider most of Zucman’s inequality work (both as a solo author or with Piketty and Saez) as highly dubious because he and they keep treating the data with little care as showed in both our articles" vincentgeloso.com/2023/05/03…

SCOOP: Democrats have insisted they have nothing to do with the other Dan Sullivan on Alaska's Senate ballot. But aides with the Mary Peltola campaign and DSCC were part of a monthslong secret plan to recruit him to run -- as well as other candidates. nytimes.com/2026/10/28/us/po…

Let's be honest, the West hates Mao because he liberated Chinese people, united the country, and made it impossible to be a Western puppet. Moreover, he inspired more Asian, African, and Latin American people's anti-colonial and anti-imperialist movements. The West slanders any leader who refuses to obey them. Mao was a great strategist, revolutionist, thinker, writer and leader. Long live the great unity of the people of the world!💪

Three hundred years ago today, Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels was published anonymously in London. In a May essay for @Plough , Henry Oliver explores how Swift’s humor darkens. What begins as hilarious mockery of political and religious quarrels ends with a disturbing portrait of cruelty disguised as reason. Jonathan Swift’s Frustrated Humor On the three-hundredth anniversary of Gulliver’s Travels, Swift’s satire of his own society is remarkably relevant. plough.com/articles/jonathan…

Jimmy Lai is still unjustly imprisoned. Today. Still. China is murdering him slowly given his health and the inhumane conditions. This is cruel and unusual punishment. And, oh by the way, you have solidified his status and martyr and hero every moment you keep him confined. Release him to his family. I still can’t stop picturing the state dinner we had for Xi Jinping at the White House. Glad everyone enjoyed and all. But this is still happening in our world today, to a man with tremendous humility, courage, and resilience. Selfishly I want him freed because I want to learn from him about holiness. There should not be a day when we do not pray for the release of Jimmy Lai until it happens.

Another example of a “democratic” socialist who can’t bring himself to wholeheartedly oppose authoritarian socialism:
For once, the community note is actually useful. Millions of people did indeed die under Mao's reign. It was a tragedy. But, for some reason, the Western mind seems incapable of grasping the complex impact of Mao. In the West, we refuse to acknowledge that Mao is actually respected and admired in China. I've listed a few reasons in my original post. Unity and sovereignty are big ones. After a century of being carved up and subjected to imperialism, Mao unified China into a single central state. He removed foreign influence. He stood up to the US. China’s status as a major power today rests on foundations built by Mao.

Vital to understand that buy-borrow-die is nowhere near as big or prevalent as is being portrayed, and is not a justification for wealth taxation. ⬇️
Replying to @George_A_Callas
The evidence is that the "buy, borrow, die" loophole is probably big enough to justify a targeted loophole closer, but nowhere near big enough to justify broad-based wealth or mark-to-market taxes. Three weeks ago, I explored this is more depth: georgecallas.substack.com/p/… END 🧵
