GRA Distinguished Investigator @EmoryChem leveraging total synthesis to combat bacteria/antibiotic resistance. Father, mentor, entrepreneur, Yankee/ND Irish fan
I’m excited to announce my first co-author publication as a chemist! We (@WuestLab) disclose the total synthesis of 5 pyridone alkaloids, diverging from a single linchpin intermediate and relying on a late-stage convergent strategy. (1/2)

On the topic of review panels, has anyone heard if the NSF GRF review panels met this year? Curious if we are on schedule, as much as that can be or way behind.
Excited to share that our paper in collaboration with the Rather lab (Emory VA), Grabowicz Lab (Emory Microbio), and Sieber lab (TUM) is out now in PNAS! This was a highly cross-disciplinary collaboration to understand a unique HTS hit’s antibiotic MOA.

She looks like a DOCTOR in this light. The future’s bright, dazzling ✨
Congrats Dr. Martina Golden (@MartinaaMelissa)!! 💗🧪🤩🫶🐈🪩🍾
Now onto the Carlson lab at University of Minnesota to continue her work on fighting antimicrobial resistance! 🧫👩🏼🔬
Congrats DOCTOR Carter Brzezinski (@sp3intermediate)💡👨🏻🔬🧪🏊♂️💅 From antibiotic development to photochemistry, we’re excited to watch you become a biocatalysis expert in the @KFBChem lab!
The National Academy of Inventors is proud to announce the distinguished 2025 Class of NAI Senior Members. This year, we recognize 162 exceptional inventors, identified by NAI’s Member Institutions, whose groundbreaking innovations are shaping the future of technology and society.
These distinguished innovators will be honored at NAI’s Annual Conference, Forward Together: Innovating with Purpose, taking place June 23–26, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia.

We are deeply saddened to share that our friend and colleague Professor Amos B. Smith III has passed away. Amos joined Penn in 1973 and was a mainstay in our organic chemistry division. He recently celebrated 50 years of service to @PennSAS@Penn.
🛑JUST CANCELLED—Trump HHS has just cancelled key meetings of the Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (PACCARB) & CDC’s Environmental Public Health Threats meeting—➡️all because of Trump WH’s new blackout of all HHS external comms. My god.

Congrats German! PhD #21 for the group and in record time. 18 months and five papers later, excited to see what you will do at the DOD. #DidBetter@laneygradschool@EmoryChem@EmoryMMG
You want to run antibiotic MICs according to best-practice clinical microbiology protocols, but you are not sure how? Our article will walk you through it all! Great to work with @nikikaderabkova@AyeshaMahmood2 and a pleasure to publish in @npjAMR. rdcu.be/dZp04#AMR
#SERMACS2024 was a blast ✨ We had so much fun sharing our projects with other scientists and listening to the current research happening across the southeast!🧫🧪💫
Antonio Brathwaite, principal investigator at Emory's Department of Chemistry, gained a $400,000 NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates grant. This initiative will offer research opportunities for undergraduates each year.

Our latest work is out in @ACSBioMed! We found that many hospital-acquired strains of P. aeruginosa are fully resistant to many sanitizers currently used to clean hospitals and also found in home cleaners! @EmoryUniversity@EmoryChem (1/3)

Luckily, we also identified a new class of compounds, including some proprietary ones developed with the Minbiole Lab @VillanovaU , that retain their activity by working through a unique mechanism of action. @EmoryOTT (2/3)
