Wolfdog Layla has a real knack for digging dens in less-than-ideal locations. Though the animal care team has had to collapse many of her underground projects for her safety, we’re happy to report that her newest den is both beautiful and completely safe! #behindthescenes

While most of our residents ignore the trail cams we use to monitor their health and behavior, wolfdog Mesa is quick to notice even the smallest change to his environment. In this clip, Mesa and his companion, gray wolf Sierra, can be seen inspecting this camera right away!

As fall settles in, elk begin moving with the changing seasons. Bulls become more active as the breeding competition kicks up, and large herds gather to travel across the McCleery Ranch landscape.
Sound UP to hear the cow elk mews and bull elk bugles! 🔈

There’s nothing better than watching our residents enjoy the calm of their surroundings. Male Mexican wolf Hodari (M1458) reminds us why dedicated sanctuary care matters, especially for critically endangered species like the Mexican wolf. #wolfhaven #tenino #endangeredspecies

A huge thank you to our volunteers for preparing some tasty enrichment treats! Biodegradable paper bags filled with goodies were topped with sardines and bison tripe, ensuring named bags went to their specific resident. Our SAFE animals received bison tripe and elk bones instead!

Rest periods at our Tenino sanctuary provide a unique sneak peek into wolf social structures. As this family group of Mexican wolf brothers demonstrates, downtime often shifts into gentle play, where even small interactions help reinforce trust and strengthen bonds. 💚 #wolfhaven

Today we honor the legacy of Mexican wolf M1066 Moss (2007-2022). After years as a dedicated father to his 2015 litter with F1099 (Betty), he enjoyed a peaceful Wolf Haven retirement under the firs with F1341 (Sedona). He holds a special place in our hearts and is dearly missed💚

We love being able to capture quiet, peaceful moments here at our Tenino sanctuary 🐺 While a wide-open mouth can look fierce to some, this big yawn from male Mexican wolf, M1458 (Hodari), is pure relaxation.
Drop your best caption for Hodari in the comments below! #wolfhaven
