The ED just froze trading accounts holding about ₹200 crore in an alleged WhatsApp-driven pump and dump involving two listed companies. It's crazy that even in 2026, people still fall for stock tips on WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, and social media. This is probably the silliest way to lose money. Given how late in the cycle we are, these instances are only going to increase. We're already seeing more pump and dumps, whether through WhatsApp groups or influencers peddling IPOs and stocks. This won't end well. So the next time you get a message promising easy money, just ask Claude or ChatGPT whether it's a good idea. It could save you a lot of money. It's become a cliché, but nowhere is "if it's too good to be true, it probably is" truer than in the stock market.

SEBI has announced changes to the Closing Auction Session (CAS), market closing timings, and F&O settlement methodology. These changes will come into effect from December 7, 2026. Currently, regular trading in stocks covered under CAS ends at 3:15 PM, followed by an auction session until 3:35 PM. Other stocks continue trading until 3:30 PM, while index and stock F&O contracts trade until 3:40 PM. On expiry days, the final settlement prices for expiring index and stock F&O contracts are based on closing prices determined through CAS. Here's what will change from December 7: - Index and stock trading hours: Regular trading in all stocks, including those covered under CAS, will continue until 3:30 PM. - Closing Auction Session: CAS will be shortened from 20 minutes to 10 minutes, running from 3:30 PM to 3:40 PM. Market and limit orders will be accepted from 3:31 PM to 3:36 PM, followed by only limit orders. The session will close randomly between 3:38 PM and 3:40 PM. - F&O settlement: The final settlement prices for expiring index and stock F&O contracts will be calculated using volume-weighted average prices (VWAP) from the last 30 minutes of regular trading (3:00 PM to 3:30 PM), instead of CAS closing prices. - Index F&O trading hours: Trading will continue until 3:45 PM on all days. However, on expiry days, expiring index F&O contracts will stop trading at 3:30 PM, while non-expiring contracts can trade until 3:45 PM. - Stock F&O trading hours: Trading will continue until 3:45 PM on all days, including expiry days.

Yesterday, the RBI announced that bank deposits will soon be included in the Consolidated Account Statement (CAS). This means you'll be able to see your stocks, mutual funds, FDs and NPS on a single statement. But what exactly is CAS, what can you already see in it, and how do you access yours?🧵

Life Cycle Funds: Here is how they work: • The Glide Path: Far from your target year (ex: 2041), the fund automatically invests heavily in equity (up to 80%). As you get closer, it smoothly shifts into safe assets protecting you from the market risk right before you retire. • Tax Efficiency: Internal asset allocation through exposure to arbitrage means that even during the conservative stages of the fund's life, equity taxation benefits (as per current laws) can be availed. • Hands-Off Investing: No manual rebalancing required. One decision, locked in until your target date. Are these hands-off funds the ultimate "set-and-forget" portfolio for retirement and other goals, or do the fixed schedules and lack of track record hold them back? In our video on the new Zerodha Varsity Mutual Fund channel, we break this down. piped.video/watch?v=qppogViQ…

One lesser-known thing about @zerodha is that almost everyone in leadership today has grown from within the organisation. We have rarely hired anyone from outside for leadership roles. For most people here, Zerodha was their first or second job, and we don't really have anyone with a pedigree education either. Shoaib is a good example. He started as a support agent, went on to head account opening, and eventually became our head of HR. Having leaders who come from within the organisation is valuable because they understand the culture instinctively. You don't have to put in effort to explain how we think, what we value, or how we make decisions. Ultimately, the people at the top end up shaping an organisation's culture to a large degree. So having people who have imbibed that culture for years makes running the business so much easier. Full link in comments.

BSE runs a stock exchange. Wipro provides IT services. Yesterday, BSE traded 7× its average daily volume. Wipro traded over 15×. Two very different businesses, with a common reason behind those unusually large volume bars.

Even as major US indices are trading at or close to their all-time highs, some India-listed ETFs tracking them have fallen sharply. The reason is the premium at which some of these ETFs were trading compared to their Net Asset Value (NAV). When investing in ETFs, there are two prices to watch: the market price on the exchange and the iNAV (Indicative Net Asset Value), which reflects the value of the ETF’s underlying holdings. Since ETFs trade on exchanges, their market price can move away from the iNAV because of demand and supply. An ETF can therefore trade at a premium or discount to its underlying value. This is happening with some international ETFs in India, where overseas investment limits have restricted AMCs from creating fresh ETF units. With limited supply and high demand, some of these ETFs have been trading well above their iNAV. Before buying an ETF, it’s worth checking how its market price compares with its iNAV. On Kite, we show a nudge in the order window when an ETF is trading at a premium or discount to its iNAV, so you can see the difference before placing an order.

People need to be able to close an account as easily as they open one, if not easier. Making it easy to open an account but impossible to close one is the oldest dark pattern in the book. I think we are one of the few apps where the account closure option is clearly visible. We (@zerodha) close around 15,000 to 20,000 accounts every month for reasons ranging from company policies and trading losses to moving to another broker. It might sound counterintuitive, but allowing customers to close their accounts easily is the mark of a good business.

We tend to think scams are easy to spot because something will look obviously fake. Often, it’s the opposite. Scammers can use a real company’s name, copy its website or app, talk about an actual product, and even give you information that’s partly correct. That little bit of truth is what makes the scam believable. So instead of asking whether something looks genuine, verify it yourself. If someone claiming to be from Zerodha contacts you, don’t use the links, phone numbers, apps, or contact details they send you. You can check information about Zerodha and our products here: - support.zerodha.com: for product features, processes, and FAQs. - zerodha.com/bulletin: for important updates You can also verify whether a call or email is actually from Zerodha: - Verify calls: support.zerodha.com/category… - Verify emails: support.zerodha.com/category… Zerodha will never give you stock tips or advice, ask for your password or OTP, or ask you to transfer money to a personal or unknown bank account. We’ve put together a simple checklist you can use to stay safe from scams.
