What Disney is facing is not a series of coincidental regulatory actions but a sustained, coordinated campaign of censorship and control. As I told their new CEO, the fight ahead may not be easy, but the law, the facts, and the public are on their side.

It would be unconscionable for the FCC to agree to inundate consumer phones with unwanted AI-generated robocalls just weeks before an election Unsolicited robocalls are the #1 complaint we get. The FCC should stand with consumers instead of the dark money groups pushing for this

.@SenSchumer is right to be worried. As early as this week, the FCC could unleash a flood of unwanted robocalls as voters are already inundated with this junk. The last thing people want just weeks before an election is their phones overrun with AI slop.
The FCC MUST reject the request made by a Republican group that would allow political groups to make robocalls to cell phones without people’s permission. Putting Americans in a position where they can be fed misinformation through AI-generated deception ahead of a crucial election is yet another attempt by Republicans to mislead voters. The risk here is severe: unleashing a Pandora’s box of election mis- and disinformation made more believable with AI. The approaching election is a reason to preserve safeguards, not suspend them. reuters.com/world/us/senator…

Huge thanks to @SenMarkey for his leadership in creating and defending the E-rate program

It’s true. The FCC has a radical plan that opens the door to dismantling the broadband program that helps schools and libraries connect students and seniors online. If this country is serious about winning the AI race, we need more (not less!) tools to bridge the digital divide.
Brendan Carr’s FCC is threatening to end E-Rate, which has helped connect schools and libraries to the internet for 30 years. I led my colleagues in writing to Carr demanding that he abandon this effort. Students and communities cannot afford to lose E-Rate.

Did this story ever air on broadcast television? If not, I’m not sure what authority we’d have as an agency to investigate. In fact, I’m not sure the government should have a role here at all.
FCC source tells me @BrendanCarrFCC has directed the agency to open an investigation following the receipt of this @berniemoreno letter

Investigating news reporting carries fundamental dangers. When the government scrutinizes what journalists choose to cover and how they cover it, the chilling effect on a free press can reach well beyond any single story, and that risk should shape how we approach this.

🚨A dark money group wants the FCC to let it unleash a flood of unwanted political AI slop straight to people's phones. Doing so would bring chaos and deception so close to Election Day. 🧵

Consumers reasonably expect the rules protecting them from unwanted robocalls to hold steady while they decide how to vote, not for the FCC to change them at the 11th hour to unleash a deluge of political AI slop on their phones.

The FCC voted unanimously in 2024 to confirm that AI-generated voice calls are unlawful without the consent of the person being called, since an AI-cloned human voice is artificial by definition. A reversal of this interpretation would require a vote by the full Commission.

With nearly 1/2 of Americans struggling to afford the cost of living, the Lifeline program is helping them get online & stay online We must pursue fraud wherever the evidence leads, free from politics and without taking support away from law-abiding families who rely on Lifeline

The FCC's sole defense is that its review was required by process. The court appeared skeptical, and rightly so. Threatening license revocation is an extreme step, basically a death sentence over a speeding ticket. I remain confident the First Amendment will prevail here
A lawyer for ABC and its parent company, Disney, urged a judge to block the Trump administration’s early review of its licenses, comparing the process to a “guillotine” hanging over the broadcaster’s head bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
