This is a false equivalence. Slotkin, a sitting U.S. senator, openly said she wants “signature cases” against Trump’s “enablers” specifically to deter people from considering jobs in his administration. I’m not aware of any Republican in office who has advocated the mirror-image approach—using the threat of prosecutions to deter people from serving in a Democratic administration. Whatever one thinks about broader claims of retaliation, they’re not equivalent to Slotkin’s statement and its unambiguously stated goal.
My thoughts on Senator Slotkin’s U of C remarks and Republicans’ hypocritical reactions. "Trump won the election and could have stopped the cycle. But that was contrary to his vengeful nature and, in any event, would have been seen by his side as unilateral disarmament. And so he engaged in astonishingly harsh and broad retaliation for what the Biden administration did, in order to deter rivals on many dimensions. The Democrats are now contemplating whether and how to respond when they gain power. The incentive for brutal retaliation will be overwhelming, especially since it will be argued, just as Vance argued, that the other side has already done it, will do it again if possible, and thus must be maximally deterred. And so on. It’s a bleak future." execfunctions.org/p/senator-…

Do any of the people with strong opinions on the Republican staffer class have something to say about this?

Senator Slotkin understands something too many politicians even on the Right still don’t: young conservatives are clear-eyed about the threat posed by the American Left. They are under no illusion that leftists play fair, or that they ultimately want the same things but prefer different ways of getting there. That makes them fearless and effective. But to leftists like Slotkin, it also makes them a threat. Young conservatives like those at American Moment understand the sorts of policies necessary to dismantle the Left’s death grip on so many of our public and private institutions, protect the good life for everyday Americans, and preserve our republic for future generations. Just as importantly, they do not care whose delusional sensibilities they offend in the process—a quality that has been missing from far too many politicians on the Right for generations. That is why people like Slotkin are so desperate to sideline them before they ever set foot in the arena. Unfortunately for her, the brazen lawlessness of the Left is outmatched by the bold conservatism of young Americans whose fight has only just begun.
Our response to @ElissaSlotkin's threat to conservative staffers: “We are going to help them get jobs, we are going to put them to work, and if anyone comes after them—they’ll have a fight on their hands.”

Christopher Columbus embodied the best of the Western spirit. His faith, courage, and grit led to the discovery of a new world and brought Christianity and Western civilization to a new hemisphere. From the hulls of his ships, he set in motion waves that, centuries later, would culminate in the founding of the greatest nation the world has ever known: the United States of America. His enduring legacy of excellence should serve as an inspiration for Americans to boldly defend the greatness of our civilization. Happy Columbus Day!

By the way, for those who really want to understand the broad scope of American diplomatic history (and not just the midwit version that starts with WWII), an excellent book is “We May Dominate the World” by my friend Sean Mirski. It focuses on the period from the Civil War to WWII, where—for better or worse—Latin America was unquestionably the main focus. I generally find those who decry our Administration’s priorities shockingly ignorant of this history and of the Western Hemisphere more generally.

At first I thought this was a parody. Denigrating the countries of our hemisphere as only worthy of visits by mere assistant secretaries. Presumably the Secretary should be in Paris, Brussels and Berlin talking about the rules based international order? The below is everything that has been wrong with the U.S. foreign policy establishment since the end of the Cold War.
Secretaries of State travel the world, to our biggest allies and to address the most pressing issues. But Marco Rubio does neither. His solo travels take him where assistant secretaries go. Rarely the boss. open.substack.com/pub/ivodaa…

*THIS* post perfectly encapsulates the decadence and degeneracy of the contemporary US foreign policy establishment. In this view, a US Secretary of State is only *supposed* to travel to NATO capitals because a successful US foreign policy is what makes diplomatic counterparts in Paris, Berlin, and Brussels raise a champagne toast to “shared values” while flinging open their borders, destroying their economies, and apologizing for Western civilization. God forbid a US Secretary of State show his face in Bogotá, Quito, or Lima because that’s where mere “Assistant Secretaries” are supposed to tread. This smug approach led not only to predictably catastrophic results in the Western Hemisphere but also in Europe itself, where the combination of moral vanity and strategic incoherence also proved toxic. But sure: keep holding your academic seminars, writing your unread articles, awarding each other meaningless prizes, and looking down your noses at Donald Trump and Marco Rubio.

Thanks to GTI for the opportunity to build on the Ambassador's remarks, focusing on resilience in the face of Chinese political warfare. Also appreciate @AlexGrayForOK's expert moderation. Bottom line: Inaction in the face of this threat, which the U.S. also faces, is risky.
