Major disputed verses in the Masoretic Text defended grammatically in visualizations of my book 🧵
I write about the Masoretic Text at Reformed Masora.
I don't think the MT was written by the rabbis (though COPIES were).
So we don't depend upon Rabbinic Judaism for our Bible.
I take the classic view of John Owen etc that the Hebrew OT belonged to, and was preserved by, the church.
Many of the most ardent Christian Hebraists of the Reformation also wrote against Judaic interpretations.
Look at Jerome: mostly wherever he learned Hebrew or Aramaic it was from a Christian, not from a rabbi.
See letter 81, 125, preface to Eusebius' Chronicle, Prologue to Daniel for primary source attestation.
If you look closely at the Rabbinic approach to the Hebrew text, it's utterly opposite to the Reformers.
The Reformed either believed the vowel points were inspired, or held mostly to the readings of those who held to the inspired vowel point view anyway.
Judaism by contrast says you can change the vowel points, and even the consonants, according to a complex Kabbalistic system, resulting in a malleable text.
The Reformers didn't rely on the rabbis for their Hebrew and even corrected them confidently.
I think issues have become conflated so now the Masoretic Text is seen as a product of Rabbinic Judaism on both major sides of the debate.
As for particular texts I've done a lot of case studies and would be happy to share them in good faith dialogue. DMs always open.
