In 2019 Afzal Ansari saheb was the only Muslim MP to be elected to the Lok Sabha from a constituency with less than 10% Muslim voters. I expect the same was the case in both 2014 and 2024.
Afzāl Ansari saheb is the ONLY Muslim MP in the Lok Sabha who has been elected (twice), from a constituency (Ghazipur) with less than 10% Muslim votes. He was previously elected to the UP Vidhan Sabha 5 times, from a segment of the same constituency and has always stood for…

Salman Khurshid (and his father before) used to win not long from Farrukhabad which is 85% Hindu. But that was also a kind of insular elite politics whose time is up. A secular future can only be built through progressive politics which works for everyone.
The day INC or other mainstream opposition parties gather the courage to nominate an "Abdul" for a 75% Hindu majority constituency, I'll start dreaming of CHANGE. Till then.....

For far too long, the name ‘Abdul’ has been used as a slur in India's hate campaigns against its Muslims. It is deeply satisfying to see that name occupy global political space, command respect and become a source of great joy. We reclaim what was never theirs to demean !

Banana republics were called that because it didn't seem like they had a functioning government as the fruit corporation ran everything. They at least had the excuse of being tiny central American countries under US domination. Very embarassing stuff for a country of 1.5 billion.
I wish India had a Prime Minister.

He is the former DGP of Assam. He put this tweet out hours after Assam Police 'encountered' the prime accused in the recent Guwahati (Bilas Inn) hotel murders case while allegedly trying to escape police custody. He was being transferred from Guwahati to Sivasagar for a separate & older case, as his police custody ended.
Relevance of Newton’s third law remains undiminished in Assam. Keep it up @assampolice

Today a wave of grassroots republicanism is unsettling the exclusion and majoritarianism of the Hindu republic. Can it build a political public that connects the aspirations of young people to a broader coalition of the urban poor, farmers, workers, marginalised castes, and religious minorities? @AsimAli6 wrote last week: theindiaforum.in/politics/in…

Even if productivity increases merely thanks to exogenous technological improvements, it will sustain only when wages rise, because wages are sources of demand, and firms do not produce more when demand does not rise. How can we keep wages high? Public employment and investment!
Real wages do not rise automatically with productivity and are a result of collective bargaining exhibit 357298452.

This is excruciatingly good. Sometimes a ‘gotcha’ is the best way of showing up shallow, low-wattage hypocrites like Nigel Biggar.
I think this is a very good time for people to watch Mehdi Hasan's debate with Oxford Prof. Emeritus Nigel Biggar.

Five months on, CJP seems to have lost the opportunity to politicize Indian youth in a way that challenges the political order. For that you need an organisation with an ideological vision which evokes 'value commitment'. Now it seems a self-contained civil society pressure group

Opposition doesn't bring up often enough how Govt collaborated with Israel to surveil top politicians, judges, journalists etc, through Pegasus (in effect Israeli State export to favoured foreign clients). That was foreign meddling in Indian politics on an unprecedented scale.
Mr Modi, stop lying to this nation. You became PM because of foreign help. You remain PM because of foreign help. Your financial system is fully controlled and supported by foreigners. Foreign social media fully backs you. I challenge you to an open debate about this. Any stage, any time. Come if you have the guts. You won't dare, because you are terrified of what I know about you.

Clear explanation of how inequality feeds inflation: firms choose price over volume
One major consequence of the K-shaped economy? The $48 cocktail. More and more companies are abandoning everyday Americans to chase wealthy customers who can afford to pay exorbitant prices. Meanwhile, the rest of us get priced out.
