India’s Next Biotech Breakthrough will not just be manufactured here, it will be invented here.
At NAMSCON 2026, Dr. Dhananjay Tiwary, Senior Adviser, DBT and Managing Director, BIRAC, delivered the plenary address titled “India’s Next Generation Biologics Moments: From Discovery to Global Market”.
Biotechnology is at an inflection point because today we can program biology, we can predict biology, and we can scale biology. With AI, synthetic biology, gene editing and advanced biomanufacturing converging, the innovation cycle is accelerating and India has an opportunity to lead. India has built a strong foundation of scientific talent, world-class institutions, a growing startup ecosystem and enabling innovation infrastructure. The next leap is clear, from manufacturing for the world to owning the science, technology and intellectual property that shapes the future.
Through the BioE3 Policy, India is advancing an integrated ecosystem of Biofoundries, Bio-AI Hubs and biomanufacturing hubs to accelerate discovery, de-risk innovation and enable scale-up. The ambition is bigger than developing products. It is about building globally competitive biotechnology innovations, creating new value from science and positioning India at the forefront of the next generation of biotech breakthroughs.
Calling for collaboration among scientists, startups, investors, industry, regulators and philanthropic partners, Dr. Tiwary emphasized the importance of collective efforts in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
