Just bonkers after FDA's own scientists concluded that there is no demonstrable evidence of safety, efficacy, or even quality for peptides considered in July for legal compounding. Instead of demanding evidence, HHS essentially says "good luck" to patients in figuring this out.

How long are these guys going to keep playing the oldies? Here’s what has happened — in the real world — to trust in the CDC. Trust is down during this administration, even among Republicans.
Unlike what @washingtonpost & @bylenasun attempt to promote Demetre Daskalakis is NOT a ‘warrior’ of public health & science but part of the cult that tarnished any trust in public health! The truth is that he actively tried to sabotage the scientific work of ACIP & the COVID Immunization Workgroup! He worked hard to block discussions on any safety & efficacy issue related to potential contaminants in the COVID vaccines, their prolonged immunological effects (IgG4 class switch), the impact of documented frame shifting (production of unintended antigens) and prolonged vaccine injuries. We should all be thankful that is not anymore in position of power!

MAHA is a failure by its own chosen metrics.
At the time of the Biden inauguration in January 2021, 73 percent of the public told KFF they trusted the C.D.C. as a source of health information. The number is now 47 percent. kff.org/public-opinion/kff-p…

During a measles outbreak in Samoa, RFK Jr suggested to Samoan officials that the outbreak may have actually been caused by the vaccine.
The cause of the measles outbreak is simple, undervaccination. In 2015 twenty states were > 95% immunized and only 3 were < 90%. Today 16 states are < 90%.

Who are you going to believe about measles: A rabid conspiracy theorist or a group of leading infectious disease physicians? 🤔 tough call
Congratulations to Andy Pavia for being selected to deliver the Enders Lacture at @IDWeekmtg

The FDA now follows a consistent philosophy: gold-standard science, unless it's something RFK Jr personally likes.
Requiring compounders to report adverse events for peptides where there is no evidence of efficacy, safety, and quality is basically putting a bandaid on a bullet hole. Here are the many reasons why this is an awful idea that will fail to protect patients:

Hungry for more gastrointestinal pathology knowledge? Dr. Jackie Birkness-Gartman from Johns Hopkins has authored amazing free GI pathology modules for the Open Pathology Education Network. Take a look and see how much there is to learn. open-pathology.org/ #pathology #gipath

A lot of "not a real doctor" storylines this political season. Now you all know how pathologists feel. :) Anyway, this particular one seems totally wrong as she completed residency which requires treating plenty of patients.
The fact that she’s hiding from debate, hiding from questions, & bans cameras at her events should tell you something. It’s beyond bizarre.

If you're rushing to complete a study just before a policy change makes your study unethical, it is already unethical.
NEW: @RollingStone has updated its story on the controversial hep B vax clinical trial in Guinea-Bissau funded by @CDCgov, to include a new statement from @WHO: WHO spokesman Tarik Jašarević: “Even with the new protocol, the study is unethical.” rollingstone.com/politics/po…

Sort of amusing that people are going with this line of attack when the NIH director is also a non-practicing doctor and the admin nominated someone without an active medical license to be surgeon general.
Good job, Abdul. You didn’t call yourself a doctor! You are indeed a graduate of a medical school. But you forgot to tell your audience you are unlicensed and unable to practice medicine. Maybe you’ll get it right next time.

"In the past, the NIH invested substantially in health disparities research that has not resulted in tangible improvements in health outcomes for the populations it purports to benefit." - Jay Bhattacharya
Women make up half our population, yet too many questions about their health remain unanswered. President Trump’s Executive Order marks an exciting opportunity to strengthen NIH’s investment in women’s health research and advance the Administration’s commitment to improving women’s health throughout the lifespan. Under the order, we look forward to establishing a new Women’s Health Division. Working closely with NIH’s Office of Research on Women’s Health, the division will strengthen the Federal Government’s ability to: • coordinate research on women’s health conditions, including replication studies; • address gaps in scientific understanding; and • accelerate the translation of discoveries into better health outcomes.

I got scammed. They told me it was pass-fail but in your dean’s letter you were either “excellent,” “great,” “good,” etc. Everyone else knew about the adjectives me but me!
More than a decade ago, the trend led by top medical schools was 2-tier (pass/fail) grading for preclinical courses. The story of the last decade is pass/fail for core clinical clerkships (now at 12 of the top 25 schools). As a result, residency programs have more difficulty differentiating students from these schools, and students are increasingly driven to pursue extracurriculars (chiefly research/publications) and max their Step 2 score to distinguish themselves.

Correct, a big part of the fraud was that she had jerry-rigged off the shelf lab equipment to (inaccurately) test small amounts of blood while telling everyone that the result was actually coming out of her magic box.
So @TylerShultz_ as a Theranos whistleblower. And he wrote the piece you need to read about ‘You Can See Everything.’ Elizabeth Holmes is still lying, he says. And the filmmakers, while creating a great piece of art, fall short on looking outside the walls of her apartment to document that. One key detail: "My wife had to squeeze my arm to prevent me from jumping out of my seat in the theater and screaming, THAT IS NOT THE DEVICE." Again, that device Holmes showed? It's not the one we're talking about!!!! Having seen the film, I basically agree with Tyler's take. statnews.com/2026/10/19/eliz…

To be fair, Collins cast a decisive vote on the ACA repeal attempts of the first Trump administration.
Q: Can you name a time when you voted against your party and President Trump and it changed the outcome? SUSAN COLLINS: At one point, I had organized people to vote against Secretary Hegseth. As you undoubtedly have read, at the very last minute one of our Republicans changed his mind. Otherwise he would've been defeated for that job. Q: So it didn't change the outcome

One thing you can say about quacks is they consistently bring attention to interesting historical events. The problem is that serious journalists have to spend most of their time debunking lies about those events. theatlantic.com/health/2026/…
