Would DeSantis be a trust buster and break up corporate monopolies if elected president?
Governor DeSantis says young people chose socialism because the Republican alternative is crony corporatism which resembles the Soviet politburo funneling power and benefits to a handful of elites. “Is just screaming socialism going to work? Obviously, it didn't work in this election. And why? I think a big part of that is, what they're comparing is not free enterprise to socialism. What they're comparing is how government gets involved in business, and you have crony capitalism. So the best kind of indirect supporters of socialism are some of these corporatist Republicans who propagate these crony policies. Because the average person seeing that would say, wait a minute, you're trying to bend the government to funnel benefits to this corporation or that industry or this. What about having a competitive market? If you have a competitive market and you truly have free enterprise, that's going to benefit small businesses. It's going to benefit individuals. You are going to see the standard of living rise. The problem is these young people really aren't seeing that. They're seeing just a handful of companies that have an outsized influence on our economy and on our society. And they see government policy, for example. The Republicans in Washington wanted to do a 10-year effective amnesty for big tech where states and locals wouldn't be able to provide any type of regulatory oversight over artificial intelligence. And I'm thinking to myself, what other industry gets this? These hyperscale data centers that have become very controversial, you go to places like rural Texas, these are conservative people that are just beside themselves because these things are getting, in some of these instances, they're getting no property tax. People say they give money. Well, not if you give them tax breaks. So they're getting subsidies in some parts of the country. Now I think it's gotten so unpopular that they know they have to pay tax and everything. But a year or two ago, it's a much different thing. So the way you're going to end up having socialism is if you don't have a clear contrast between freedom and socialism. If it's cronyism versus socialism, there's going to be enough people who are going to choose socialism because on the surface, it seems like, well, it's government stepping in on behalf of people. Now we know a socialist society is going to be a highly cronyist society as well. Just look at how the Castro family lived in Cuba for all these decades while their people suffered. Look at how the Soviet Politburo lived back in the day or how the Chinese communists lived. It's human nature kind of at its worst. It's a different veneer, but ultimately, it's funneling power and benefits to a handful of an elite.”

My party got crushed last night and you know what? I’m not threatening to flee to Canada or trashing my country, because unlike the left, I see my country as more than a vehicle to political power. This is my home. And I’ll never stop fighting for it.

Bill Clinton’s midterm loss made him into the best fiscal president of my lifetime. If he could’ve kept his pants zipped and stayed out of globalist trade agreements, he would have gone down as one of the best presidents of all time.
I'm not actually super-pessimistic -- like my post below might sound. I think things looked a lot worse the day Nixon resigned. That looked like the end of America to me back then. And imagine what the Civil War must have looked like, and WW2. One thing I've learned during my 68 years on the planet is it's impossible to predict the future. Defeats can quickly turn into victories. And apparent victories can quickly turn into defeats. The political pendulum swings back and forth. Obama lost 63 House seats and 6 Senate seats in 2010. He did not seem all that phased by this. Bill Clinton lost 54 House seats and 8 Senate seats in 1994. He then worked with New Gingrich to enact Welfare Reform to require work for the physically able. Both Reagan's midterms were total disasters, even though he won 49 states in 1984. We just have to get up off the mat and keep plugging away, like Joe Frazier.

I keep seeing people saying the war in Iran is the reason republicans lost the midterms. Even Vice President Vance has stated this. I don’t think it’s a correct assessment. The reason they lost the midterms was because they didn’t grow wages as fast as they grew inflation. (Among other things) It definitely was the war in Iran that led to this, but the real cause of the political defeat was that republicans lost their focus on account of the war in Iran.

One of the few things where I think Massie is wrong.
CNN: U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) says he plans to introduce a motion to impeach Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth when Congress returns next week. He claims multiple GOP sources said they expect it to pass.

I've got a bit of an emergency. That pipe you see there provides all of the water for one of my places and 4 other neighbors. It used to be 40 to 60 feet from the river before this flood.

That bunch of willows used to run the entire length of the bank but now it's totally gone. There is supposed to be a power pole about 15' to the right of the bank. There's a meeting Thursday night that I hope provides some answers as to how to deal with this.

Let me tell you something absolutely BONKERS from last night’s midterms… Democrat Ericka Lomick just “won” Texas House District 93 despite being a convicted felon who suspended her campaign months ago. She pleaded guilty in 2011 to federal charges including mortgage-fraud conspiracy, bank fraud, and money laundering. Her sentence? 63 months in federal prison. On her candidate paperwork, she checked the box claiming she had not been finally convicted of a felony. After her criminal record surfaced in September, she suspended her campaign and stopped running. But Texas election deadlines had already passed, so her name remained on the ballot for both the regular general election and the special election. And voters still elected her by roughly 51–49%. Here’s the kicker: Under Texas law, a final felony conviction generally makes someone ineligible to hold office unless they’ve been pardoned or had their disabilities released. Meaning she can’t actually serve. Her “victory” simply creates a vacancy and triggers yet another special election. A convicted federal fraudster who quit campaigning still got elected to the Texas House. Let that absolutely sink in.

This fellow might surprise me. I doubt it, but this beats "lawyer up" all day long.
Democrat James Talarico gives President Trump credit for securing the border, admitting he’s done a better job than the previous administration. He also says he wants to work with Trump on immigration reform, border security, and creating more legal pathways for immigrants. A rare moment of bipartisan agreement.

Boots is a good helper.
Since we're so short on winter groceries, Austin and I decided last minute while we were moving cows that we would hold the cows here for a couple of days. It regrew quite a bit since we pulled them off a month ago. We had already pulled the hot wire out so I'm shepherding to keep them out of the alfalfa patch while he brings over some wire and posts.

He's watching the line because there's a cow 3 feet from it. If I say go, he'll send her west.
