When transplantation is not an option, every conversation and every choice matters. Hear from Tess from PSC Support Australia, who raises important questions about access to clinical trials, the need for effective medical treatments, and the importance of honest, transparent conversations about all aspects of care, including palliative care. 💬 Her message reminds us that patients deserve to be informed, heard and actively involved in decisions about their health and future — even when the conversations are difficult. 🌍 Different countries, shared experiences, one global voice for PSC awareness. #PSCGlobalDay2026 #PSCawareness #PatientVoices #SharedDecisionMaking #PatientCentredCare #ELPA

Research brings hope, but access to research opportunities remains a challenge for people living with PSC. Hear from Kerrie, President of PSC Support Australia, who highlights the challenges of securing research funding in an extremely competitive environment and the lack of clinical trial opportunities currently available to PSC patients in Australia. 💬 Her message reminds us that advancing PSC research requires sustained investment, international collaboration and equitable access to clinical trials. Every patient, regardless of where they live, deserves the opportunity to benefit from scientific progress. 🌍 Different countries, shared challenges, one global voice calling for more research and better treatment options for PSC. #PSCGlobalDay2026 #PSCawareness #PSCResearch #ClinicalTrials #PatientAdvocacy #ELPA

A significant milestone in global hepatology: five international liver societies establish a unified definition of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF). Published in the Journal of Hepatology, this landmark consensus brings together EASL, AASLD, APASL, ALEH and SOLDA to establish a common framework for ACLF diagnosis, staging and clinical trial design. The consensus addresses longstanding regional differences in definitions and aims to support more consistent clinical practice, international research collaboration and the development of effective therapies. “The publication of this landmark global consensus represents a historic moment in hepatology, bringing together five major international liver societies for the first time to speak with one unified voice on acute-on-chronic liver failure,” said Professor Debbie Shawcross, Professor of Hepatology & Chronic Liver Failure at the Roger Williams Institute of Liver Studies, Kings College London, and EASL Secretary General. By establishing a shared, evidence-based framework, this collaboration represents an important step towards more equitable patient care and improved outcomes for patients with ACLF worldwide. Patrick Stewart's final movie role will be in "Avengers: Doomsday," in which he reprises the iconic "X-Men" character Charles Xavier. In one of Stewart’s now-final interviews published by TV Insider in July, the actor spoke about his decision to star in “Avengers: Doomsday” and told fans that he would never “retire” from acting. “As any actor my age will tell you, there are fewer and fewer available roles as we get older. That being said, I still continue to receive interesting offers and I love being challenged by new work,” Stewart said at the time. “I can’t imagine ever officially retiring. I’ll always and forever be an actor.” variety.com/2026/film/news/p…

Ian McKellen pays tribute to Patrick Stewart, his close friend of many years: “Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love,” McKellen wrote on Instagram. “America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.” “His farewell performance in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is yet to be seen,” McKellen concluded. variety.com/2026/film/news/i…
