Jon Stewart was back behind the desk of “The Daily Show” Monday night and went all in on Vice President JD Vance, President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron — but not before cracking a joke about his recent renewal.
Kicking off the show, Stewart introduced guest David Corn, “who you know the Native Americans used to refer to as David Maize,” he said. “And they’ve just pulled our renewal! I’m sorry.”

Judi Dench says Tom Hooper's "Cats" film was a "waste" of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "goodwill and talent":
“Oh God, I can’t bear it – and [Lloyd Webber] had waited so long for it to be made. What a waste of all that goodwill and talent... I understand the critics were rather hostile to the film. I never saw the final cut so I can’t judge. All I’ll say is nobody sets out to give a poor performance or make a bad film. You do your best, offer something up and hope that people will get on board and join the party.”

Must-read from @MattDonnelly on the firing of Netflix film boss Dan Lin.
Plus, scoop on Lin and Greta Gerwig's falling out over "Narnia" during a Zoom call earlier this year. Lin was then pulled off the movie.
variety.com/2026/film/news/n…
Netflix fired film boss Dan Lin because he could not find the balance between streaming titles and theatrical release experiments, sources say.
Lin and Greta Gerwig did clash over the upcoming "Narnia" movie, but sources say the incident is not directly what led to his firing.
On a Zoom call earlier this year, Lin is said to have been “dismissive” to Gerwig regarding the progress of the "Narnia" movie, which carries a $250 million budget. Word traveled fast around Netflix that the meeting had gone south. Soon after, Lin disappeared from the film, per sources, and film VP Doug Belgrad stepped in as the primary Netflix exec overseeing the project (until, of course, he was laid off last week).
