True story…
In 2005, Hurricane Wilma hit South Florida, and blew up the transformer that directed power to
@PineCrestSch where I was teaching English. We were out of school for 2 weeks.
When I got back, determined to never lose that much time with my students again, I built out my whole course on a web page. For free. (I taught a bunch of really old literature and we really focused on analysis and writing).
There were a couple of LMS models floating around by then.
When we started being required to use them, and different brands seemingly every year, i started to envision what an ideal academic platform would be.
When I got into this industry, and still today, the grand vision has been a platform wherein the best minds can solve the hardest problems, create meaningful impact, and pursue increasingly palpable positive deviance discoveries.
When I designed what would become Turbine, it was all about maintaining human-centricity in a fast-emerging, global, digital community. I had to fight everyone early to keep the live (virtual) human interaction part as a core practice.
Turns out that was the right hill to stand on.
Watching how broken education, research, collaborative scholarship, and the global knowledge industry has become-
@jennyliu07 and I have reimagined
@Harkness_Labs and are shipping an MVP that will resonate with academicians around the world.
It is a smooth blend of usability, sophistication, millennia-old best practices, and frontier technologies.
And it will only continue to get better.
