Minnesotan. Historian. Not the Sleepy Eye athletic director. 📖: When Democrats Won the Heartland: press.uillinois.edu/books/?i…. Views mine only

New job! As of yesterday, I'm Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist in Civic Engagement and Public History @SDState. I'll run our Museum Studies minor, SD National History Day, and new statewide history programs. Not good at #EarsUp yet, can't wait to start. #GoJacks 🐰

I agree, time for more "rise of progressive populism" books
Hoping this can put an end to all those end of democracy/liberalism books

To be VERY clear, the idea of progressive populism in a U.S. wave election the YEAR I published a book on it being equated to "that Chip Kelly Northwestern shit" might be my self-hating academic life and self-hating sports life converging in the most perfect way possible.

Say what you want about any college football coach in the world, any other professor in the world...my aesthetic will ALWAYS be Chuck Martin. Short sleeve mock turtleneck? CHECK. Sweater vest? CHECK. Disbelief at what I'm seeing? OF COURSE. Double-chin? I'M OFFENDED YOU ASKED.

you know what, I would read the PANTS off a book that covers that exact set of midterms in the Midwest (and how the Democratic Party fumbled that energy both in Congress and the subsequent presidential election)!
i think this is my favorite midterm of all time, reagan had an era defining victory and then two years later dems netted 8 senate seats

One of my favorite "call the ambulance, but not for me" races was Quentin Burdick's 1988 Senate race in North Dakota: at 84, after being hospitalized for a colon cancer scare, he released his medical records and committed some mild assault on his opponent: coryhaala.org/midwest/north-…
Lula pulled a reverse Biden. He seemed old and washed, but a viral debate moment helped him pull off the win.
