The Keedy Lab at the CUNY ASRC in NYC is looking for a postdoc! Our lab uses avant-garde structural biology experiments and computational analyses to reveal conformational ensembles that underlie biological function. See attached flyer and keedylab.org. Please share!

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

I'd start with the pioneers of protein sequence and structural bioinformatics -- the foundation of protein structure prediction & computational design. Margaret Dayhoff, Dame Janet Thornton, Jane Richardson, Helen Berman, Ruth Nussinov, Anna Tramontano, Christine Orengo & more.
Can someone please start a thread of women in protein design? It's not my field so I can't immediately tag accounts but it would be a nice way to bring attention, especially in light of the currently all-male Nobel run this year. Happy to amplify for reach. TYIA!

Together with @Farooqi_Lab we showed that these mutations indeed diminish PTP1B activity both in cells and in vitro with recombinant protein -- despite being distributed throughout the 3D structure, far from the active site. (3/6)

Finally, the most impactful mutations cluster near ligand binding hotspots, including some that allosterically affect the active site. Interestingly, this region is an allosteric inhibitor site for PTP1B's cousin SHP2, but has not been previously pursued for PTP1B... (5/6)

Overall, we think this study shows the value of coupling human genetics and structural biophysics to illuminate new paths for drug discovery! Of course, we have deposited our crystal structures in the @buildmodels PDB and will publicly release them ASAP per @ASAPbio_! (6/6)

To explore the molecular basis of obesity and new ways to guide anti-obesity drug development, the @Farooqi_Lab found rare genetic variants in ~1k thin healthy people. Several were in one of my lab's favorite proteins, PTP1B -- a known drug target for obesity and diabetes. (2/6)
