Love the shoutout for robotic labs @DaveARicks ! Quick vid from this morning of @ginkgo’s system 160 devices all in one setup running 24/7 with variable lab work submitted daily by scientists. Peak days are 500 technician hours of lab work in a 24 hour period. Love to build one for Lilly - Novo just bought one 😉 Happy to give a tour to you or your team anytime in boston !
Well said Vas. AI will help us conquer disease, but this will take time, effort and lots and lots of data that doesn’t exist, yet. I would add that robotic labs will begin to make scaling data more tractable. lnkd.in/p/g8qvP5qX

Dr. Hosea Nelson is a professor of chemistry at @Caltech and PI of ELECTRA, the Electron Diffraction Cloud Laboratory for Research and Autonomy. ELECTRA is one of 20 cloud labs being built across the country with funding from the National Science Foundation. Molecules are invisible, and identifying them is a bottleneck in science. ELECTRA is built around microcrystal electron diffraction, a technique that lets chemists see molecular structures, and aims to run it autonomously and at scale. They chose Ginkgo to help make ELECTRA an autonomous lab. Dr. Nelson explains how Ginkgo’s RAC system will let his team prepare tens of thousands of samples on a single grid, and why chemistry has to build its data ecosystem from scratch.

Ginkgo's autonomous lab in Boston has over 70 instruments that operate as one autonomous unit. Rashard Thornhill, automation engineer at Ginkgo, walks through one instrument: the PlateLoc, which makes sure that before a plate goes anywhere on Nebula, it gets a seal so nothing evaporates or spills. We're excited to announce that we will provide in-kind access to our autonomous laboratory in Boston to support the National Science Foundation’s X-Labs program. Ginkgo’s support was announced today by Michael Kratsios (@mkratsios47), Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (@WHOSTP47), at the Science: A New Golden Age Summit in Washington, D.C. NSF X-Labs is a $1.5 billion, decade-long initiative to fund independent teams of researchers, engineers, and entrepreneurs pursuing breakthrough science through milestone-based awards. Through its contribution, Ginkgo will make cloud lab time on its autonomous lab available to NSF X-Labs teams, giving researchers remote access to robotic lab infrastructure to design, run, and analyze experiments. As part of the NSF X-Labs program, Ginkgo will offer NSF X-Labs teams its protein testing services, enabling researchers to rapidly express and characterize protein designs, including those generated by AI models, without building out their own wet lab capacity. I hit the tech nerd lottery today! Awesome to join the White House Science summit and be surprised with the awarding of national medals of science and technology ! Also excited to announce today that we are contributing time on @ginkgo’s autonomous cloud lab as founding members of the NSF X-labs consortium! Read about it here : businesswire.com/news/home/2… And from NSF in post below 👇
Grateful for the founding partners of the NSF X-Labs Consortium! Together, @AsteraInstitute; @ginkgo; Tom Secunda at the @secundafund, @SloanFoundation, and other national philanthropic partners; and @MattCimaglia with @OccamFoundry and the @FLQuantumCenter will help NSF X-Labs launch a new generation of independent research organizations accelerating the pace of scientific discovery. nsf.gov/news/nsf-lays-founda…

A new @Nature technology feature looks at how labs are using cell-free protein synthesis to speed up the design-build-test cycle with offerings like our CFPS kits 👉 hubs.la/Q04zrWwl0  @Ginkgo Reagents general manager Cyntiha Collins explains how our Premium kit adds a solubility enhancer for proteins that are large, insoluble or need extra help folding. Just add DNA and water. And for the disulfide-bonded proteins that need an oxidizing hand to fold right, our new CFPS Disulfide kit is now available in beta.   Earlier this year, we ran 36,000 CFPS experiments over six months on our autonomous lab, Nebula. @OpenAI's GPT-5 designed each round, Nebula ran the plates, and overall we cut reaction costs by 40% compared to the state of the art. That work is exactly what powers our Economy kit, which you can read about and buy today. Learn more about our CFPS kits: hubs.la/Q04zrWhS0

Dr. Bill Bentley is PI for the Collaborative for the Realizaton of Autonomous Biomanufacturing, also known as the CRAB Lab, at the University of Maryland. The CRAB Lab is one of 20 cloud labs being built across the country with funding from the National Science Foundation. The CRAB Lab is developing data-rich measurement techniques new to biotech that are suited specifically for machine learning and AI. They chose Ginkgo to help make the CRAB Lab an autonomous lab. Dr. Bentley explains how Ginkgo's RAC system helps them "leapfrog" the lab development process, bring down production cost, and create new types of medicines and molecules that serve the greater good.

This is what the world's largest autonomous lab sounds like. Ginkgo Computational Biologist @RoryKirchner turned every instrument in Nebula, our autonomous lab in Boston, into a musical instrument. Each row is a robotic instrument. Each color is an experiment moving between them, coordinated by the lab's AI scheduler. Novo, MIT, Caltech, and the U.S. Department of Energy have all ordered autonomous labs from Ginkgo. You can visit and hear it for yourself. Book a tour here: hubs.la/Q04z2gHG0

AI models alone gave designs where ~20% beat the starting enzyme. Adding physics-based modeling raised that to ~55%. In a second program, AI + physics + data reached ~73%, vs ~25% for AI alone.
