Two weeks into his term, Supervisor Bilal Mahmood hadn’t met with any of us that are impacted by street closure policies. But one of the most controversial figures behind the Hayes Street closure was already putting him on notice, framing the majority opposition as a “vocal minority.” Mahmood’s reply? “We’re on it.” That’s not equitable representation. That’s undue influence. hvsafe.com/qmqm

Sunset Blvd right now. Is this no change in traffic? Is this how you remember the commute?

Closed block. Rerouted bus. Side-street backups. Double parking. That is the traffic impact of the Hayes Street closure. #ReOpenHayes

I wonder how much revenue these small businesses lost while “broke” @SFMTA_Muni pays $75 k per year to close ONE block of Hayes while there’s a wide open pedestrian space right beside it, and ignores their own rules being violated by the Hayes St. colonizers? @DanielLurie
97 weeks. Same permit. Same noncompliance. The 400 block of Hayes remains closed. The request to SFMTA remains the same: revoke Permit No. 1316522. hvsafe.com/nc97 #ReOpenHayes

The note says it. Closed for events. Open for the vendors. The businesses paying rent are the ones writing the signs. #ReOpenHayes

Wake up SF: the same people are fighting to close all the streets. Lux was behind closing UGH (with many others) - and now he's signing a petition to close Hayes? BS He lives in outer Sunset - he has ZERO business demanding street closures in Hayes Valley. .@EricaJSandberg .@SusanDReynolds .@sfchronicle .@sfstandard .@bettersoma .@micsolana
Look who supports and is aiming to shut down Hayes Street permanently ...this all we need to know about how political this has become. piped.video/shorts/1YcDUacoU… If you care about small business thriving in San Francisco and keeping their doors open please sign the petition now. What are you even doing here @SFMTA_Muni ? STOP killing small businesses.
A small market. A closed commercial street. Vendors in the customer parking. Merchants absorbing the cost. SFMTA has the weekly record. Octavia and Linden exist. Use them. 6 years is enough for a failed experiment. #ReOpenHayes

SFMTA calls it Shared Spaces. It should be Grabbed Spaces. #ReOpenHayes

I’ve advised for a very long time wash your hands people. I got mrsa locally picking up garbage may of 2018. I’ve always wanted to swab the sidewalks locally. Some are incredibly filthy.
NEW: E. coli and fecal matter allegedly found on tables and computer keyboards at Santa Monica’s Main Library. The city says it has NOT verified the findings commissioned by @TheSMCoalition. Now, some are calling for the library to SHUT DOWN for a deep cleaning. @houmanhemmati

Not only do New Yorkers disagree, but local businesses are pleading with the city to change course. As usual citizen complaints get ignored, and DOT likes to throw it in their face. Forcing people to support bad ideas has never worked in the past, and I doubt it will work now.
Court Street Brooklyn, totally destroyed by an unused bike lane , boulders on very corner, it’s manufactured traffic everyday , listen to this long time resident ( of course the transplants dont care ) instagram.com/reel/Dd9Lr62BE…

When I first moved to San Francisco I got a place with three other roommates. If you can’t afford the rent in San Francisco you can always get roommates right? What’s wrong with that? Or if you still can’t afford the rent and won’t live with roommates you can always live in Oakland no? I think the BART trip under the Bay is only like 6 minutes right? Why is there this presumption that every entitled Gen Z in the whole wide world deserves a below market luxury apartment of their own in San Francisco? By the way, the Tenderloin is right smack dab in the heart of San Francisco. A lot of apartments there for less than $3,800/month. Hell, a lot of our drug tourists get apartments there that are totally free.
Wanted: A one-bedroom in San Francisco, under $3,800, no lectures about rent control. 📝: Jesse Alejandro Cottrell sfstandard.com/2026/10/12/ev…

Does this make sense? A major business corridor (Hayes Street) is shut down every weekend… while Parcel K — a public parcel literally right there — sits completely vacant and unused. Events and gatherings that are happening on the closed street should be taking place here instead. This temporary closure on Hayes Street, enacted during a pandemic, lingers while our Supervisor and a small group continue to exert control over a public right-of-way. This isn’t about public space or community. It’s about ideology. The City and SFMTA have completely lost the plot. hvsafe.com/reset #ReOpenHayes

Still happening. Follow-up #7 went to SFMTA on September 2. A commercial street stays closed. A vendor uses the curb as a storefront. The shops next door pay rent. That is the policy. hvsafe.com/sgcm #ReOpenHayes
Why does this vendor get prime cultivated retail place for free on the Hayes Street closure? -No rent -No tax -No city business fees #ReOpenHayes

Great point ^^ -- help us and we'll help you when the time comes. Just ask. In fact we can do that now with @HayesValleySafe and the Kafkaesque issues they're having with reopening their stretch of Hayes St.

Why is this happening on Hayes Street? Seems that there's an elite in-crowd that gets to decide everything wrt to the closing of Hayes Street and the supervisor there, Bilal Mahmood supports it. Small business owners are being screwed over. smh
HOW is this supporting SF’s small businesses @DanielLurie @bilalmahmood @sfbos @SFMTA_Muni ?? Stop screwing over Hayes Valley merchants.
