Why doesnβt the 2021 class get another year too? There's a real answer: the clock. The 2022 class's five-year window is still open through 2026-27, so the fifth season fits inside the clock the NCAA already gave them. No extension needed, just the new rule applied evenly. The 2021 class's window expired this past spring, before five-for-five existed or was even discussed. Helping them means reopening closed clocks, and that has no stopping point. 2022 isn't asking for extra time. They're asking to use time they already have. That's why the court called the NCAA's line arbitrary.
