I concur on the second part.
Call me an optimist if you want, and certainly this is also just my interpretation as well - but Sony saying things like "cautiously" and "players have attachments" indicates to me that they realize they have to nail this.
Which was my point the whole time - whether the future is digital or not, gamers should not relent until Sony convinces us the digital future will be fair and worth buying into.
I can easily be convinced to get a PS6 that has only digital next-gen games...but you have to convince me. You have to give in addition to taking. I have to know that my games are owned by me, my old games are still playable, and I will benefit from this.
Until Sony (and frankly their competitors) address these things...the backlash should continue.
Having listened to the full Q&A section, it's clear that Sony isn't reversing the decision to stop producing new game discs in 2028.
However, and this is only my interpretation, it does seem like they are looking into solutions for those with PS5 disc games. No indication of what that would be but If I was to guess it might be a disc drive add on for legacy games or some type of disc to digital program.
The issue is, this is something Sony should have announced alongside the disc announcement, because right now a lot of the backlash is from the uncertainty around existing disc games, digital game rights, and PS6.
