500 years ago, in 1526. Tyndale’s English New Testament had been printed at Worms, and was being smuggled into England. Luther: Had been married for about a year. The Diet of Speyer (June to August) failed to enforce the Edict of Worms, and thus helped the Lutheran cause. Zwingli was consolidating reform in Zurich, but his disagreements with Luther on the Lord’s Supper were becoming public. Bucer in Strasburg was helping shape the emerging Reformed tradition, especially its approach to worship, pastoral ministry, and church order. Calvin was only seventeen years old, still pursuing his education in France. His Institutes would not appear for a decade. The Ottoman victory in Hungary probably helped the Protestants in the Habsburg empire.

On Reformation Day, we remember the reformers who called the church back to the truth of God’s Word and the good news of the gospel. Their commitment to Scripture continues to shape Reformed Theological Seminary’s mission to uphold the authority of God’s inerrant Word and the Reformed Faith. May we remain steadfast in these convictions as we serve the church and proclaim the gospel. . . . An edifying review of @ReformTheoSem's new commentary on the Westminster Confession of Faith (@crossway), by @demyronhaynes!
While no single sentence can capture the fullness of the Reformed tradition, at minimum it means three things: to be biblical, to be covenantal, and to be confessional. We need to know where those roots came from: thegospelcoalition.org/revie…
