AOC running as a senator and a left-wing labor leader running for president would be a good idea — and it looks likely. Advance the Left's egalitarian agenda while directly challenging class dealignment as our contribution to the 2028 presidential debate.
Members of the Democratic Socialists of America are thinking seriously about a national presidential campaign for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in 2028 that would reach millions of working people and have the potential to transform American politics. jacobin.com/2026/10/dsa-ocas…

Op-ed from head of IBEW local in NY that represents utility workers where DSA wants to take over the IOU. Mentions their concerns with the takeover proposal but focuses more on their resentment over New York's progressive and socialist left rejecting new nuclear. "The nuclear question deserves far more attention. At the state's Oct. 5 technical conference on the Nuclear Reliability Backbone, staff and analysts presented scenarios in which additional nuclear generation could cut total electricity system costs by tens of billions of dollars through 2040 and 2050, compared with pathways leaning more heavily on intermittent renewables, storage and transmission. "Nuclear plants run around the clock, reducing the need for extra infrastructure to cover the gaps. If even part of those savings materializes, Central Hudson customers benefit along with everyone else. "There is also a contradiction here: Nuclear projects developed through the New York Power Authority would be public investment in public power. If public power is the goal, why rule out a resource that can deliver reliable electricity, good-paying jobs and lower system-wide costs?" 👆 That last point is something @Matthuber78 and I have been raising for the past several years. The answer seems to simply be that the left is too ideologically captured by environmental nonprofits and too wedded to the financial logic of competitive energy development. I don't know how else to explain it. The pure irrationality is so intense that even socialists will just completely bypass the organized labor in the sector they're focused on. Much easier to say this is business unionism, reactionaries, etc. timesunion.com/opinion/artic…

They’re saying that only promising and delivering economic populism for the working class can defeat the looming specter of fascism. Lula!

So if you want to understand capitalism, you need to be talking to small business owners, portfolio managers, and Marxists. Nobody else can really talk about it with any substance.

SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios. The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios. Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said. Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior.
