We'll be spending a lot more time trying to understand the outputs of language models. A few thoughts, tips & tricks: Writing. Something I've had success with: Ask your LLM to explain something in ASD-STE100, it's a controlled language specification originally developed for aerospace maintenance documentation. LLMs well-versed in this language and it comes with heavy constraints on clean writing style that I often find a lot more readable. Sometimes I've tried to soften it a bit e.g. ask for "80% of the way to ASD-STE100" because the spec is quite stringent. But even better: Diagrams / images. Instead of writing, ask your LLM to create a diagram. These can be a lot easier to process, parse, and understand. But even better: Web pages. Ask for output "in HTML" to get a beautiful, interactive webpage. LLMs are getting really good at frontend and can create beautiful experiences, animations, etc. But even better: Explainer videos. The output format I am most bullish on is fully custom / bespoke explainer videos generated on any arbitrary topic. Experiment with things like "Create a 3b1b style video explainer on X. Use my ElevenLabs API key for audio narration". (you'd need an API key for the latter or you can ask your LLM to find you decent free alternatives that use your local compute). This is actually starting to work! In summary: - As LLMs get better, they will do more and more of the legwork autonomously, and a lot more of our work will rise up the abstractions into oversight and understanding. - Luckily, LLMs can help here too because as intelligence and code are increasingly abundant, you can ask for large, custom, discardable software artifacts (e.g. web apps, video explainers) that would have never made sense to create before. Push the boundaries here and you'll be surprised.

The Pareto frontier is misleading ❌ for general users. Price it by subscription instead of API. With cache hits, Opus 5.5 with Claude Code 20x has already killed every other model.

Researchers proved AI has deleted every reason universities exist. Harvard University ran a controlled experiment pitting a custom AI against their own top-tier classrooms. And the results are going to collapse the higher education bubble. They took 194 undergraduates and split them up. One group learned physics in one of Harvard’s best hands-on, active-learning physical classrooms. Group work. Instructor support. The premium university experience. The other group went home and learned the exact same material with an AI tutor. The AI didn't just win. It embarrassed the institution. Students using the AI learned more than twice as much as the students in the elite Harvard classroom. They scored 30% higher on the final assessment. And they did it in less time. Let that sink in. A piece of software sitting on a laptop outperformed a world-class faculty in one of the most elite learning environments on Earth. Universities have always justified their exorbitant tuition with two things: access to elite knowledge and the physical classroom experience. This study just proved both of those moats are gone. When software can teach you complex physics twice as well as a $60,000-a-year institution, the math of higher education breaks permanently. The AI didn't just give the students answers. It used strict pedagogical guardrails. It guided. It questioned. It forced the students to do the cognitive work. It offered perfect, one-to-one tutoring, personalized to the exact moment a student misunderstood a concept. That level of attention is mathematically impossible to scale in a physical lecture hall. For a thousand years, the university was the only place to get a premium education. Now, it’s the bottleneck. If AI can double your learning speed for a fraction of the cost, what exactly are students taking on decades of debt to pay for?

I think we'll see a lot more of this. A large amount of software/services were "secure by laziness" in the sense that they just weren't worth the effort. But the effort is going to zero really fast now. It basically makes apparent how sloppy people were *before* agents already!

In response to the ZCode product security issues reported by the community, we have completed the necessary remediation and sincerely apologize to all our users. We have open-sourced ZCode at github.com/zai-org/ZCode, placing the code under community scrutiny and making ZCode more open and transparent. We sincerely thank the community developers who previously identified issues in ZCode. Going forward, we will establish an ongoing product security vulnerability reporting and response process. We welcome developers to continue reviewing ZCode and reporting potential issues, and we will provide rewards based on the severity of the issues reported. With respect to the code data referenced by the community, we confirm that no such data is retained and that it has never been used for model training. Following the remediation, we invited the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) and NSFOCUS to conduct security assessments. The results are as follows: Through its technical assessment, CAICT confirmed that the zcode-prod Alibaba Cloud OSS bucket is in a zero-data state. Security remediation has been completed in the ZCode v3.14.0 client. The Repo Wiki feature has been removed, and the workflow for generating and uploading local repository snapshots has been disabled. NSFOCUS confirmed that all data objects in the zcode-prod Alibaba Cloud OSS bucket, as well as the bucket itself, have been deleted. Remediation has been completed in the ZCode v3.14.0 client. The Repo Wiki entry point and the associated generation workflow have been removed, and no functional path capable of triggering the generation of local repository snapshots or transmitting local files externally was identified. Once again, we sincerely apologize and welcome continued scrutiny from the community. The full security assessment report will be released soon.

As someone who works in AI here in China, its absolutely absurd how China is seen as some kind of threat to AI. I'm actually working on medical AI here in hospitals and designing safety guards to how agents should be used and what they should not be used for. That's been directed from Xi himself who said AI should be under human control just a couple months back. So when Anthropic CEO says they need to close off US AI because its scared China could steal and overtake, its so strange, especially because Chinese AI is all open-source, yet US are now trying to basically privatise it and limit it from the rest of the world. Then ….. Chinese media just called this a “Cold War playbook” which the BBC are trying to spin as bad. I genuinely think China has a point here because China are the ones being open whilst the US are trying to close it off and politicise it all. AI is being used by the US for what? Whilst in China i'm seeing it literally save lives and help people in education etc.
China criticises idea it is in 'malicious competition' over AI bbc.in/4yw3IoI

the general public has been getting constant waves of fear and confusion from ai companies i thought the whole "you will be replaced" thing was as bad as it gets but now it's "you will literally die" the defense is always "it would be irresponsible of me not to warn people of the risks" but all that's happening here is the same thing that always happens: a group of people had the thought that their cause is righteous and moral and they're incrementally justifying worse and worse behavior and entirely incapable of reflecting on how they might be the problem

This is what Dario and Sama fear - - the cost of fine tuned open source models trained on custom data was 95% less than the frontier models - And they performed better than the frontier models - And they could train them in less than 48 hours The big AI labs have no moat.. Even at the enterprise level.. Any sane company would prefer a custom trained open source model instead of paying API pricing to Anthropic and Open AI If open source keeps growing at the pace it is, frontier labs' business collapses.. only way out is oldest trick in manipulation - FUD -> Fear, Uncertainty, Death Step 1 - Seed the psyop - Test a swarm of agents trained to "hack" - The swarm does what its supposed to do - hack - Publish a report - AI is too dangerous Step 2 - weed out the doubters - Get an employee to quit your company - Go viral saying both companies are not doing enough to self regulate AI - AI is dangerous - will kill humanity by the end of the decade Step 3 - Prepare for fruition - write an "essay" to "pace the frontier" - Advocate regulation - Only a few holier than though companies get to build AI - Scare the world into agreeing with AI Doom - Effectively turn your competitors into criminals (genius business strategy) Endgame - - Become a cartel that controls AI (and the world) - Raise prices (coz business is unsustainable... ofc) - IPO (offload liability of said unsustainable business to the public) Laugh all the way to the bank 🤑 Win!
.@L3HarrisTech says Palantir helped them beat frontier AI models in less than 2 days, at 95% lower cost: "When we fine-tuned open source models trained on our own data, we were able to outperform the frontier models in less than 48 hours." "The cost of our fine-tuned open source model was 95% lower than the frontier models we were using." "AI is a commodity. It's all about the data. We view our data as a corporate asset. It's our unique hard-earned knowledge." "We believe American defense companies should not be a vassal for frontier AI labs, handing over our data and institutional knowledge, hoping to rent back the intelligence it creates." " We own the model, we own the compute, we own the advantage."

One of the greatest ironies in the age of AI is China being the voice of reason and calling for AI to remain “open and inclusive,” while the land of the free, the USA, uses fearmongering to control, shut down access to intelligence, and keep AI closed and non-inclusive.
🇨🇳 Beijing is telling the AI panic crowd to calm down. China’s Foreign Ministry says AI should remain “open and inclusive,” warning that fearmongering, confrontation and “vicious competition” will only derail global AI governance. There’s clearly no appetite for slowing the race just because others are getting nervous. Writer: Julie
