ALT “This is irresponsible amplification of false information attempting to discredit a free and independent press simply for reporting the facts. As we stated yesterday, Sheryl has not met Jack Leslie and has not spoken to any member of the NIH hospital board. She and her colleagues on The Times’s team covering HHS produce factual, accurate and responsible journalism that cuts through political rhetoric and provides valuable reporting for the public, all of whom benefit from clear and trustworthy information on public health.” — Charlie Stadtlander, a spokesperson for The New York Times
ALT Online commentators and some chatbots have suggested that this image from our October 2026 Delhi protest coverage was taken in 2020. This is false; the image was taken by photographer Saumya Khandelwal on October 10 alongside dozens of other images and video from that day. Readers can follow the latest reporting, photography, and video from the protests at nytimes.com/India. Read the full fact check: nytco.com/press/tracking-misinformation-delhi-protest-photo-claims/
ALT “As tensions with Iran continue, Times reporters are increasingly the subject of abuse and widespread, defamatory propaganda, designed to discredit their work and sow distrust. They are attacked and vilified for covering this conflict impartially. Ronen Bergman and Farnaz Fassihi have been instrumental in revealing the strategic calculations and internal debates shaping the war between Israel and Iran, publishing revealing information that would otherwise remain obscured. Their independent, deeply sourced journalism is widely cited by Iranian experts and media, and offers Iranians a clearer understanding of what is happening inside their country. No journalist should have to face these abusive and manipulative attempts to stifle independent reporting and newsgathering.” — Nicole Taylor, a spokesperson for The New York Times

ALT “President Trump has repeatedly made the false claim that The Times published a doctored image of his private golf club, Trump National Doral in Miami. The image used in our report is not doctored. It was taken by a Times photographer in 2020 and accompanies our report about President Trump walking back his decision in 2019 to host the G7 summit at Doral.” — Nicole Taylor, a spokesperson for The New York Times
ALT "Our reporter Farnaz Fassihi is being unfairly criticized for attending a briefing with Iran's president and foreign minister, a meeting she attended along with editors and reporters from major American and British news outlets. This is what newsgathering looks like; reporting conversations conducted with Iranian government officials is standard, legally protected journalistic work. Never before has a head of government attended the U.N. General Assembly while at war with the United States; our reporting on Tehran's proposals provides the public with insight into Iran's negotiating strategy and prospects for peace." — Nicole Taylor, a spokesperson for The New York Times
