Lufthansa’s A321 Retro is hands down my favorite retro livery. I managed to photograph it a few times in either bad light or with ground clutter photo. This was a surprise yesterday when I saw it arrive Munich from Frankfurt. I am happy to finally have a good photo of it.

Eight days after her two little boys were stabbed to death, Darlie Routier stood at their grave laughing and spraying Silly String. A TV camera was filming, and that tape helped put her on death row. On June 6, 1996, she called 911 from her house in Texas, screaming that someone had stabbed her babies. Devon was 6 and Damon was 5. Their baby brother Drake, 7 months old, was upstairs with their dad and slept through all of it. When the first officer ran in, Damon was still breathing. He told Darlie to press towels on her son's wounds, and he later said in court that she didn't. Damon died before the ambulance got him out of the house. She had a cut on her neck that came within millimeters of her artery. She said a stranger broke in while they slept on the couch and she fought him off. Police found no blood trail outside and no sign anyone ran through the garage, and they decided she cut herself. Then the local news aired what would have been Devon's seventh birthday. In the video below the family stands at the grave with balloons. Darlie is smiling, chewing gum and spraying Silly String on her sons' headstones while everyone sings happy birthday to a little boy buried right there. "He wanted to be seven," she said later. Her family says the news cut out the prayer service that came before it, but the jury only saw this part. She was convicted and sentenced to death in 1997, and she still says she's innocent. Her husband believed her for years. A bloody fingerprint from the house has never been matched to anyone in the family, and new DNA results are still pending. Drake grew up with no brothers and a mother on death row, so which one was she: a killer celebrating, or a broken mother doing what her son would have wanted?

First-ever loss of a jetliner was OTD in 1952: BOAC Flight 115 overran the runway while taking off in Rome. No one was injured of the 45 aboard, and the jet was written off. Cause: crew actions, namely “captain´s input of an excessive nose-up command which led to a stall”

Continuing the Halloween warm-up with some very real monsters: the true story of “Bluebeard.” One of the most famous French tales is that of “Bluebeard,” a nobleman who lured women to his castle and then murdered them — a medieval, hardcore version of *The Tinder Swindler*. Less well-known is the female (and real) version of “Bluebeard.” Belle Gunness, the owner of a large farm in the state of Indiana, USA, was a serial killer active between 1884 and 1908. Since there were no social media platforms for dating back then — as was normal at the time — Belle placed advertisements in newspapers seeking companionship. Suitors also had to bring some of their money to “add to the fortune” of their future wife. After receiving a suitor, Belle would poison him and take possession of his money. There were at least 14 confirmed deaths, but some sources point to as many as 40 victims. At the time, with the communication available, it was easy to cover the trail of the suitors. Belle would say that her “fiancés” had gone on a trip, and with no other way to verify it, that was that. (Social media has many problems, but at least it makes life harder for serial killers.) So Belle murdered and robbed her suitors with impunity for more than two decades. She was only discovered when the mansion burned down, and the bodies were found in the cellar. Among the bodies — which included two children she killed to collect insurance money — was that of a headless woman. It was supposedly Belle, but legend has it that she faked her death and fled to continue killing… (Nowadays, with the activism of the left-wing busybodies, Belle would probably be considered a martyr of feminism against “patriarchy,” and the house burning down would be a crime, because of real estate speculation…)
